Star Wars Hunters to Shut Down After a Short-Lived Run

Star Wars Hunters shutting down

Star Wars Hunters was released last year, promising an ambitious, fast-paced multiplayer shooter that brought the exhilarating action of 4v4 battles to the forefront. Unfortunately, the curtains are drawing to a close for Star Wars Hunters just a little over a year after its promising debut. Come this fall, the servers will be shut down, marking the end of the game’s brief but thrilling journey. Players have until October 1 to make their final stand and revel in the explosive chaos one last time.

The game will still be playable for the time being. Zynga, the developer behind this title, is rolling out one last hurrah with its final content update on April 15. It’s a chance to climb rankings, relish rerun events, and explore shop bundles. Plus, a new support hunter named Tuya is also making their debut, available for free for all players.

Zynga’s decision to shut down Star Wars Hunters wasn’t made lightly, and they’ve openly communicated their gratitude to the loyal community of players who poured their time and passion into making the game a vibrant space for Star Wars action. Although in-game currency purchases won’t be refunded, the 30-day notice given is meant to provide players ample opportunity to spend their currency before the in-game purchase system is disabled. The developers thanked fans in a statement.

“We understand this news may be disappointing and want to assure you that this decision was not made lightly. Your passion and dedication to the game and its community have meant the world to us, and we are committed to providing visibility and updates throughout the transition process.”

The Struggle Of Star Wars Games

Star Wars Hunters isn’t the only title from the franchise that struggled to gain traction with fans. Star Wars Outlaws was a console release, promising an adventure in a galaxy far, far, away. It received mixed reviews, and Ubisoft had to issue major updates to fix gameplay issues. The fan base of this franchise is vast, but developers are having issues connecting with it. Star Wars: Squadrons was another title that promised a unique experience that simply didn’t connect with fans.

Star Wars Hunters had the same issues the other games had. They didn’t connect with fans. This game likely also suffered by being a “freemium” game. Yes, the game was technically free to play, but to be able to compete, you have to spend hundreds of dollars. Many games with a similar structure have suffered the same fate. Fans still have a few months to get their fix in before the game shuts down forever.
