Are Once Human Players Excited For New Dog Companions?
Once Human is an interesting survival multiplayer game with some fascinating twists embedded in our favorite standards, such as the classic server wipe, which has caused quite a bit of a stir in the past with its game and still is a point of question among its fanbase, now, though, there’s a new hot topic sitting on the chopping block, hyped up in the discussions over the forums. We’re gonna go ahead and take a closer look at what’s happing here, the question being..who let the dogs out? And should we put them back in?
Once Human Adds Animal Ranches

All the way back in August 2024, Once Human released a trailer that changed the course of the game for good and is the starting point of the still current debate. This trailer showcased animal ranching to help players run big farms and have some help with PVP. It got some pretty mixed reviews right at the start, with players split between appreciating the idea and the potential of moving into more advanced AI. While the other side of the player base felt that this move was a cheap grab at Palworld’s success, and was unneeded. Once Human had a choice to make.
And a Choice They Did Make
With one single X post, Once Human made the choice clear, though, seeing as there are rules behind the animals, which I find interesting. Is that a nod to the debate? Why not a normal update? Regardless, during April 24 and June 1, Players will be able to pick up one of three dogs: a yellow lab, a German Shepherd, or a Doberman, once they visit the event page. It’s not clear as of yet just how much these furry buddies are going to help you or how exactly yet, but Once Human is steadfast in the idea that they add what the fanbase wants in their updates, declaring this was in response to tester feedback.
All is Fair in Love and Pets
There is no way to make everyone happy when it comes to making video games, especially in the current climate where bad directions mixing with greedy corporations threaten to ruin a solid game all the time. It’s hard to find a game you really enjoy and then see the developers making a move that isn’t one that you trust. When is an update or a feature an indication of a company selling out? While I think Once Human adding in dog companions is a delightful move, that is only because I want a doggo with me all the time forever. I can understand why some others may feel left behind.
