RAIDOU Remastered Brings Old Game Refreshing New User Experience
Originally, fans learned about the upcoming RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army was originally revealed to fans during the March 27 Switch 2 Nintendo Direct stream. The game is set to launch on June 19, just a little after the launch of the new Switch 2 console. Fans have been itching to hear exactly what the remastered version of a hidden 2006 gem will bring to the table besides updated visuals, and Atlas recently dropped two new trailers that help answer many of the fans’ questions.
RAIDOU Remastered Focuses On Quality Of Life and Combat Updates
Atlus’ release of two trailers has given fans a lot to be intrigued by quickly for the upcoming RAIDOU Remastered game. For those who never played the original, Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army was the first in the series to be set in historic years, going back to the Taisho period in Japan. The game also makes sure to use accurate, real-life historical events and context to fully honor Japan’s history. It takes a page from the Shin Megami Tensei series, utilizing references to Japanese mythology. Action-based combat and a monster-catching mechanic, similar to Pokémon, were also new series additions.
The new trailers show that many of these basic concepts remain the same. However, the updates were focused on visuals, quality of life improvements, and combat mechanics. The first of the two trailers was meant to update players on the quality of life improvements, which you can watch here:
The trailer highlighted five specific changes on the quality of life aspect, as follows:
- Improved graphics
- Added voiceovers
- Enhanced environments
- Quicksave feature
- Easily accessible objectives
Meanwhile, the second trailer brought us a new look at the improved combat mechanics that should make the game feel smoother for modern technology:
Once again, there were several specific changes highlighted in the short clips:
- Real Time Combat
- Free-form Camera Control
- MAG Drain System
- Infinite Ammo
- Epic Boss Fights
- Unleash Special Attacks
The most obvious change is the dramatic visual improvements, but each of these updates should bring something extra to an already enjoyable game. Players should have an opportunity to engage with RAIDOU Remastered like never before, and new fans should be able to jump into the game seamlessly, without feeling like they are playing a clunky classic.
Final Thoughts
This is not the first time Atlus has chosen to take a classic game that is lesser known in the North American market and remaster or rebrand it for the modern gamer. It has been quite a successful strategy, with the Persona series, the Like A Dragon/Yakuza series, and the Shin Megami Tensei series gaining incredible popularity in the West, and their newest game, Metaphor: Refantasio, reaching high critical acclaim and game of the year nominations. The company hopes to do the same with the Devil Summoner series, through RAIDOU Remastered, and capitalize on the growing JRPG market.
RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch, Switch 2, and PC on June 19, 2025.
