Varsity High School Football Game Development Update: Latest News & Progress

Varsity High School Football is an upcoming video game by Spear Entertainment that has been in development for a couple of years. While no release date has been announced, every couple of months or so, the developers release an update on where the game currently stands. Customization, gameplay sharing, player gameplay, and new mechanics were the main highlights here, and fans should be excited that the devs are working hard to perfect every element of the game they can.

Varsity High School Football is a game based on a national cultural phenomenon. Previously, video games that simulate sports have mainly focused on either college or professional-level athletes. This time, Spear Entertainment aims to tackle the world of high school sports, where players and coaches often gain the foundations that last them for an entire career, whether that is in sports or another field.

The Steam page for the game describes what fans should expect from Varsity High School Football. “Immerse yourself in true-to-life realistic gameplay, officially licensed gear, and all the high-stakes drama of leading your team to victory. Whether you’re a coach masterminding strategies or a player chasing the dream, Varsity puts you in control of every heart-pounding moment on the field.”

The page goes on to give specific highlights of the inner workings of the game:

What Did Spear Entertainment Reveal In the Latest Update?

On May 2, Spear Entertainment gave us another peek into the developmental progress of Varsity High School Football. Among these highlights are the ability for players to upload and download other users’ teams and logos through cross-platform sharing. Base logos can be customized with unique colors and team palettes.

As reported by Operation Sports, a new animator has worked on “key areas like route running, wide receiver hand placement, and the way the ball moves through the air. These updates are already shaping up and are expected to be visible in upcoming builds. There’s also been a strong focus on fine-tuning the feel of the on-field action to better match the pace and rhythm of high school football.”

The development team highlighted these changes in a recent X post.

The full update trailer is also available to watch.

Varsity High School Football fills a void in the market that fans have not been able to engage with previously. If Spear Entertainment can pull off its lofty goals, the game could become an incredibly successful sports entry. Although no release date has been announced, if they can get it ready for release in the next year, Varsity High School Football could even take the place of some of the holes left in football fans’ hearts at the cut of EA’s multiplayer servers on older games, like NCAA 14 and Madden 22. Stay tuned, as the developer has been consistent in updating fans on their progress!
