Apex Legends Expected To Decline More Over The Next Few Months
Apex Legends is one of the best battle royale hero shooters, created by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. Since it was released in early 2019 for the PlayStation, Windows, and Xbox One. However, there has been a change in its popularity. Its player count has been decreasing over the last few months. EA released that its net numbers have been dropping lately. It wasn’t that long ago that Apex Legends was at the very top for gamers, but it has fallen from grace over the last couple of months, and we will get into what caused this once great title’s fall from grace.
Apex Legends Is Going Down?
Apex Legends gives players a chance to link up in groups of two or three-player squads before the match. Then they have the opportunity to select their character, each of which is different. They look different, and they each have singular abilities that complement their teammates, bringing them closer to success. It is typical for a team to be up against 20 or 30 other teams hoping to be the last one standing.
Once players are ready and set with their selection and group, they have the chance to jump into this battle royale Legend. When players begin, they drop into a diverse environment littered with loot scattered all over the place. Not all of it is alike, and getting the best player with the best loot gives them the best chance of doing their job, taking down everyone they find.
How the Mighty Have Fallen?
Gamers have been falling away from Apex Legends for some time. One of the first signs of its downfall has been the layoffs at Respawn and Electronic Arts. There have also been cancellations of a new Titanfall title from these companies. Electronic Arts recently released a statement where they expect a loss of 40% year-over-year decline net users. That means they expect to loss almost half of their faithful customers.
It is difficult for a company that is suffering to pull a rabbit out of a hat, and it seems that over the years, EA has placed a lot of hope in keeping Apex Legends alive. In their expectations and work, EA has put a lot into Legends. Earlier, Electronic Arts wanted Apex Legends to have a lifespan of twenty years. We are getting close to half of that now, and things aren’t looking good for this game.
Could It Be the Competition?
The failure of Apex Legends could be due in part to the success of other games that are keeping things fresher. So far this year, the most popular battle royale game is Fortnite, with a player count that is almost triple that of Apex Legends. Legends does come in second place, just barely over Call of Duty: Warzone. Then there are a few others that, on average, have almost half as many players as PUBG, another Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and DayZ. All of these games have increasingly repetitive updates or new title releases.
There are a lot of players finding new ways to play and leaving Apex Legends. Another fresh title that is taking the limelight is Marvel Rivals. Rivals is not a battle royale game, but it seems to be taking a lot of faithful players away from their older titles. A study was taken for this player team vs team, which had almost peaking at 650K players and counting. Those gamers had to come from somewhere, and since its release late last year, its player count has varied, but it’s growing again.
With the future not looking too well, there is a glimmer of hope for fans. Apex Legends is in season 25 and has been titled “Prodigy.” Its release offers a new hero named Sparrow as well as the popular game mode Arenas. It is a limited-time event with fan-favorite maps. With it comes a new cosmetic opportunity, Death By Design, with other rewards. There are also new packs and reward items, one of which is a new skin for Pathfinder, “Belva Bruisers.”
