Devil May Cry 5

Devil May Cry Creator Expresses Interest in Remaking the Original Game

Devil May Cry is an iconic franchise, one that has really become synonymous with the hack-and-slash genre. The beloved series has captivated fans for decades, but it has been a long time since fans have had an opportunity to receive a new entry. While Capcom did release DmC: Devil May Cry, it was not a true remake and was not well received by fans. There have been no true remakes to date, but given the success of Capcom’s Resident Evil Remakes, perhaps they would consider this the right time to try.

Hideki Kamiya Shares Interest in Devil May Cry Remake

Hideki Kamiya is an absolutely legendary game director. He was the original creator of Devil May Cry, but has also worked on and directed games and franchises like Resident Evil, Viewtiful Joe, Bayonetta, and many more. On his YouTube page, Kamiya opened the platform to answer questions from fans, which was auto-dubbed into English. When it came to DMC, the creator gave a statement that got fans incredibly excited. “As for a Devil May Cry remake — of course I’d love to do that. Once in a while, I catch gameplay clips and think, ‘This really does feel like 24-year-old game design.’”

Before any Devil May Cry fans go running into the street cheering, Kamiya did say he is not currently attached to any future project in that regard. He is likely bogged down right now by the upcoming Okami sequel, but Capcom would be smart to start thinking about his words. “With today’s technology and game design approach, of course, I’d want to remake it from the ground up. If that ever happens… well, I don’t think seriously unless it’s really happening, so right now, I don’t have anything in mind. But if the time comes, I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do!”

It is clear that a remake is far from being a reality, but fans can at least rejoice in the fact that they are not the only ones itching to see the 24-year-old Devil May Cry reach the modern platforms.

Final Thoughts

With both the creator and the fans interested in a Remake, and a clear market for it, Capcom would be smart to begin discussions. Resident Evil has done well, and a slew of other studios and publishers have revisited older IPs and remade them for modern audiences in recent years. Remakes and Remasters may be a bit of what is wrong with the industry right now, but that does not mean certain games do not deserve it. Devil May Cry is one of those games. The legacy speaks volumes, and a fresh coat of paint would be well worth it here.
