Nintendo Switch 2 EShop Could Crash on Launch Day, But Nintendo is Prepared
When the Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5, many players will opt to get the edition that comes bundled with a download of Mario Kart World. Although the bundle costs $50 more than the base Switch 2, it’s a bargain when you consider that Mario Kart World will cost $80 if you buy it individually. However, there’s a chance that so many downloads at once could cause the Switch 2 eShop to crash.
Will the Nintendo Switch 2 Eshop Crash?

According to GamesRadar, the millions of people rushing to download Mario Kart World could cause the Nintendo eShop to crash. Nintendo has no way of knowing in advance whether or not this will happen. However, Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang, “once the hosts of Nintendo Minute, and respectively the former director of social media marketing and original content and senior manager of creator relations and original content at Nintendo of America,” put out a video stating that Nintendo is prepared for anything.
“Is It Gonna Burst Into Flames?”
When talking about the eShop, Ellis asked, “Is it gonna burst into flames?” After all, in addition to the Mario Kart World downloads, the Nintendo Switch 2 will require a Day 1 patch, and people will be transferring their data from the Switch 1. Ellis pointed out that the Switch 2’s launch will be at different times in different time zones. “If the eShop goes down and I don’t have my Mario Kart, I’m gonna riot,” Yang added, before explaining that in a “triage,” when something big means being prepared for anything, the communications team has to be on call to explain anything that might happen.
So, Is Nintendo Prepared?
Yang pointed out that you can’t ever know 100% what will happen during a “triage,” but she stated that “they’re prepared in terms of having a team that can either fix it or work on a fix and communicate that out to people.” Ellis also pointed out that sometimes there are worries, and then everything turns out to be fine. In any case, people will be expecting to play the Nintendo Switch 2 as soon as they get their hands on it, so any delays will cause frustration, whether it’s justified or not. As Yang stated, everyone is “fingers crossed, wait and see.”
