Scum Scavenger Shooter Hits Hard on June 17 – Wild Co-Op Survival Action Unleashed
SCUM is a shooter game that prides itself on being completely and totally over the top and, well, bad. But bad in the best way possible. The game was featured in both the Summer Games Fest livestream on June 6 and the Future Games Showcase on June 7. In the latter trailer, the developers actually highlighted “negative” reviews and completely leaned into them, leading to a surreal viewing experience. The game is not afraid to do things that most games would be far too shy to even consider, which is what makes this outrageous shooter so easy to get hyped for.
SCUM Offers Customization and Survival Skills No One Saw Coming

SCUM is a prison riot survival pvp game that truly punishes the player, but also manages to have some of the most realistic simulations of any survival game currently on the market. Players begin in a Super Max prison and work to escape, but that is far harder than anyone could imagine. Not only will users be challenged to survive one another, but they can also succumb to brutal elements, deadly animals, and unpredictable murder mechs. Oh, and do not forget about the undead that are tracking you down, too. Survival is anything but guaranteed.
As with most survival games, SCUM requires you to scavenge for materials that keep you alive. As the team shares on their Steam page, “Traverse punishing environments, looting, crafting, and evading the constant threats to your life. The unprecedented levels of character customization and progression are your ultimate tools for survival.” Rock Paper Shotgun’s review states that “Scum has a rare crafting system, a wonder of the modern age perhaps, that doesn’t force players to jump through hoops or spend hours engaged in busywork. And it does this all while maintaining an air of realism.”
The customization goes far beyond anything a normal game would offer. But do not take my word for it, watch the trailer and then read the review PC Gamer threw out. “Owners of the Scum Supporters Pack will get an additional two inches on their unit, which they can swing around as a badge of honor or sacrifice for bonus points elsewhere. Not even kidding.” You heard that right. Penis size is actually a customizable option, one you can even get bonus size for. And yes, your character can show it off in all its glory.
One of the other highlights that Gamepires prides itself on here is the true-to-life human body simulation, which takes on every part of survival. Nutrition and hydration often show up in survival games, but does bodily function management? As Polygon states in their review, “The developers say that they’ve created the most realistic simulation of the human metabolic system ever made, the end result of which is a fairly regular requirement that my avatar urinate and empty his bowels.” Yes, you have to manage your urine and feces. No, I am not kidding.
I think it is easier to just show you the SCUM gameplay then to try to describe it. Watch the trailers below, and prepare yourself for what you are about to see.

Final Thoughts
SCUM has already been in early access, so players can access on Steam right now. However, the full game launch is set for June 17, which is right around the corner. Gamepires does have a console release planned, although the exact date is not yet clear. Stay tuned for more information, and make sure not to take this game too seriously. The absurdity is all the charm!
