3 Best Game Releases in The Past Week From 9th June 2025 to 15th June 2025

What time is it? It’s weekend time, baby! And as is becoming the norm, we like to take a look back on the game releases of the past week to weed out the best of the best and give you a rundown of why you should spend this week’s hard-earned salary on them! Or beg your mom for an advance on your allowance, whatever you need to do.

You’d think that with the Nintendo Switch 2 coming out on 5th June 2025, that last week would have been the big one for game releases, but surprisingly, this follow-up week has been just as heavy. We’ve seen some incredible sci-fi drops, enough to rekindle that rush of summer Fifth Element style adrenaline and spark new cult movements, as well as being re-introduced to some classics in the form of FNAF and Final Fantasy XVI for Xbox and Xbox Series X/S.

But what are the three best game releases for this week? Which ones will be enough to entice you to stay inside out of the summer sunshine?

#1: The Alters

Ever wondered what it would be like to be stuck on a doughnut-shaped space base on a radioactive planet with multiple versions of yourself born from some weird material you can mine out of said radioactive planet? The Alters explores just this concept, taking the idea of resource management and survival to the next level alongside an interesting deep dive into the psychology of branching choices.

You play as Jan, a builder stuck in space and desperate to move that doughnut-shaped space base out of the daylight so he doesn’t burn to a veritable crisp. To do that, he needs a team of people, and the only way he can actually do that is by pulling himself from branching timelines into his ‘main’ one. Luckily, Jan is a Jack-of-all-trades at heart and has pursued multiple careers across his spanning timelines, meaning you’re able to create a Technician out of a choice he made to stay with his mother rather than go to college, a scientist out of a choice he made to pursue a scholarship at college if he went and so on.

The conversations between the Jans are raw and fascinating, highlighting the broken coping mechanisms that Jan adopts over his various iterations, as well as things that stay consistently core. The gameplay is fresh and inventive, following the formula of 11 Bit Studio’s previous hit, This War of Mine, within the base when constructing and refining resources, then switching to an adventure-style survival game outside. The survival aspect is pretty basic, but it does its job well, allowing Jan to see a lot of this planet, showing off breathtaking colour-palettes and bringing a real sense of stakes whenever one of those magnetic storms hits.

The Alters released on 13th June for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

#2: Wizard of Legend 2

A new roguelike action RPG, this game release is for the kind of people who watch Avatar: The Last Airbender or Legend of Korra and immediately ask: ‘What kind of bender would you be?’. Imbued with abilities based on the element you pick at the character creation stage, you’re then let loose upon the world to wreak havoc. The game has a distinctive but very clean comic book style, which is brought to life through excellent voice acting, and the gameplay itself is very smooth. You can play as a four-player co-op as well, which could give you access to a wider range of elemental-based abilities, provided everyone is down to take on a specific element.

The really fun thing about this game is just how fast you feel like you’re moving. Well, that and the bit where you literally get to blast enemies in the most satisfying ‘pew pew pew’ kind of way. It’s a great game for somebody who needs a minute to partake in some genuine stress relief. As you play through the game, you’re able to change up your own abilities using the merchants, though it is difficult to get up enough loot to do so, even while you’re running around the various dungeon rooms, mowing down everything in your path.

Of course, you can always upgrade your characters by defeating bosses as well, though the bosses move just as quickly as you do. Learning their patterns will help defeat them, but their diverse range of attacks is exciting, the battles are fun, and the rewards are well worth trotting down into the dungeon pits and playing hardball against the big bads for.

Overall, this roguelike is well worth the purchase and certainly worthy of 2nd place on this list. It was released on 12th June 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

#3: Warhammer 40’000 Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition

This game was originally released in 2011, but because it was released alongside Gears of War 3, it didn’t really get the attention it deserved. Cue a sequel some thirteen years later, and the hype really kicks off, so a game release that returns to the original with improved graphics, a brand new interface for inventory and equipment management, plus other new bonuses is merited. This game release is solid, not just in gameplay and world immersion, but in the strong, compelling, and yet simple narrative.

The story kicks off with three Ultramarines being deployed to the Forge World of Graia, a planet like a giant factory, the main purpose of which is to produce weaponry for the Imperium of Man. The planet has been taken over by Orks, and Demetrian Titus and his companions have been sent to wipe them out. There are a number of attention-grabbing characters as the story progresses, and the twist of having Drogan’s corpse be possessed by essentially the Prince of Hell was endearing and frustrating. Traversing the world of the Manufactorum in search of the power source needed to wipe out the orks is a lot of fun.

You never forget what story you’re in here, and the character’s moveset during various combat situations is versatile to reflect the fact that Titus is supposed to be a particularly special soldier. For the most part, he is flanked by his two buddies, but sometimes, you get to run missions alone. The battles are challenging but not overbearingly so, with enemy AI making you think enough that this isn’t just a simple hack-and-slash.

Warhammer 40’000 Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition was released on 10th June 2025 for Xbox Series X/S and PC.

The Best Game Releases

As usual, while the game releases above are our top three, there are quite a few others that should get honorable mentions. These include Stellar Blade, which has a wonderful combat system and was released on 11th June 2025 for PC, Dune Awakening which brings a new persepctive to the Dune series in the form of a survival game and was released on 10th June 2025 for PC, and Squeakross: Home Squeak Home which gives new life to the cozy game genre if you want something to kick back with, released on 7th June 2025 for Nintendo Switch and PC.

Whatever your preference, there’s something for everyone, and it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this week’s releases, plus your theories on which direction the game hype will go this summer. Will the sci-fi bigwigs reign supreme? Or will something come out of left field to make this summer something memorable, the way Clair Obscur did for the spring?
