Destiny 2 Edge of Fate Receives Melee Rework

The Destiny 2 TWID revealed significant information for the Edge of Fate expansion. Melee abilities and Glaives are getting reworks in the new expansion, hopefully making it better to balance melee builds and bring Glaives to the fore. While the numbers may seem crazy at the start, we will need to see them in gameplay in the Edge of Fate. Fortunately, we will have the shooting range to test numbers.

Destiny 2 Melee Damage Changes

The current melee damage in Destiny 2 increases multiplicatively. Instead, in The Edge of Fate, melee damage increases are additive. As an example, if two melee damage sources are 50% (1.5x) in the current sandbox, they would stack to 125% (2.25x). In The Edge of Fate, they would stack to 100% (2.0x). To compensate for these changes, the base numbers for most melee abilities are increased. With the new stats system, players can build into the Melee stat to further increase their melee damage, and it is multiplicative to other increases. One note is that melee damage will no longer scale Scorch and Ignition damage.

Glaive Rework

Glaives have been lackluster in Destiny 2. With The Edge of Fate, they are becoming more relevant. Glaive melees will count as unpowered kinetic melees. The change allows the Glaive melee to benefit from melee damage increases and trigger melee ability effects. However, the base damage of Glaive melees is decreased.

  • Glaive melee damage against minors and Desi majors has been reduced by 40%.
  • Glaive melee damage against Champions and minibosses has been reduced by 28.5%.
  • Glaive melee damage against bosses and vehicles has been reduced by 50%
