Microsoft Layoffs

Another Shocking Round of Microsoft Layoffs On The Books

And once again, we have another round of layoffs in the future! Microsoft is expected to lay off about 4% of its workers, which will be about 9,000 employees. What’s even worse is that some of these layoffs will include staff from the gaming division, which, if you don’t know, is Xbox.

Here’s Where It Stands

There had been rumors floating around about the situation, and it was described as a quote potential bloodbath quote for the parties involved.

The report came from Variety, and out of the $228,000 people working and Microsoft, 4% are currently under the cut for layoffs, which will be around 9,000 people, not the news anyone ever wants to hear, but sadly, we’ve been hearing a lot of it this year

The layoffs will include the gaming division of Xbox, and there was a memo to the staff from Phil Spencer:

” I recognize that these changes come at a time when we have more players, games, and gaming hours than ever before. Our platform, hardware, and game road map have never looked stronger. The success we’re seeing currently is based on tough decisions we’ve made previously. We must make choices now for continued success in future years, and a key part of that strategy is discipline to prioritize the strongest opportunities. We will protect what is thriving and concentrate efforts on areas with the greatest potential, while delivering on the expectations the company has for our business. This focused approach means we can deliver exceptional games and experiences for players for generations to come, ” he said

Following The Trends

What’s even worse is that this announcement is the fourth round of layoffs from Microsoft and Xbox within the last 2 years. Back in October of  2023, Microsoft had actually acquired Activision Blizzard for about 68.7 billion dollars (a good chunk of money)  and was the largest acquisition within the gaming industry.  Did they overspend, and now the workers are facing the backlash from the overspending of acquiring Blizzard Activision?
