Battlefield 6 Reveal Trailer Takes Us for a Ride—but Leaves Us Hanging

There’s a moment in the latest Battlefield 6 reveal trailer where you just know that someone in the editing room muttered, ā€œCue the explosions.ā€ Because holy hell, there are–what?–three helicopter crashes, a dam collapsing, and enough debris flying around to make Michael Bay cry with envy. EA’s idea of big reveals, it seems, is to toss the entire pyrotechnics budget into two minutes of sensory overload. And you know what? It kinda works. But then the trailer wraps up and…no multiplayer details. No locked-in release date. Just a whole lot of questions.

But hey, at least it confirmed what we already assumed–mass destruction, vehicle chaos, and the classic large-scale Battlefield mayhem are back. “Explode everything,” seems to be the overarching theme here. Dams? Exploded. Brooklyn Bridge? Exploded. A skyscraper? You guessed it. Exploded. EA knows their audience well.

A Nervous President, Global Mercenaries, and… Explosions

The trailer kicks off not with a BANG (that comes later) but with a visibly nervous U.S. president taking the podium. His job? Announce to the world the U.S. is done playing defense against the Pax Armata, a shady gang of global mercenaries wreaking havoc for reasons we can only assume are ā€œevil villain-esque.ā€ At this point, it’s clear EA is leaning heavily into a bold campaign narrative. Whether it’s gripping or gimmicky remains to be seen, but it feels like a fleshed-out world is being built here.

Speaking of fleshed out, you’ve got a bad guy who appears to be Tony Curran (of Doctor Who fame) playing the latest villain. His grizzled (and extremely angry) character spends the trailer glaring and holding a knife just enough to say, ā€œYeah, don’t mess with me.ā€ Subtle? Not in the slightest. But hey, it works. Maybe his story adds something more than just ā€œstabby bad guy,ā€ but again, EA didn’t care to show us yet.

Where’s the Multiplayer?

Here’s the thing about Battlefield: Multiplayer is kinda the lifeblood of the franchise. Yes, campaigns are neat. They give you a cool story and reasons to replay the game at least once. But multiplayer? That’s what keeps people coming back for months (or years). And watching this trailer, you can’t help but feel annoyed at what isn’t there. Where are the ground-pounding firefights, online mayhem, and the long-rumored battle royale mode that’s been leaking online like a sieve? Instead, we’re told to twiddle our thumbs for another week when EA promises a ā€œproper multiplayer reveal.ā€ Cool. Great. We’ll wait (grudgingly).

Honestly, it’s a weird choice. Why not bundle the multiplayer and campaign tease together for the diehard fans who’ve been frothing at the mouth for anything Battlefield 6? This disjointed rollout strategy feels like EA wanted to put something–anything–out that would ā€œhold fans overā€ instead of just making them wait for one complete showcase.

October-ish Release Date, According to a Leak

And about the release date. Does the trailer provide an aggressive hype-inducing ā€œComing on [insert bold font date here]ā€ moment? Nope. Instead, the only confirmation comes from sharp-eyed fans combing the game’s terms & conditions on EA’s website. Apparently, an October 10 date is tucked in there as the end of pre-launch offers. You’d think EA would’ve plastered that date at the end of the trailer with some jet flyby visuals for maximum impact, but no. We got ā€œMore info coming soon!ā€ instead. Thanks for the crumbs, EA.

The Verdict? It’s Complicated

On one hand, the trailer does deliver what most Battlefield fans crave. Big battles, cool vehicles (the jets darting over snowy peaks are frankly gorgeous), and chaotic destruction on a blockbuster level. But on the other hand, it’s filling the dish with appetizers without giving us the main course. We’re left peeking at leaks and waiting for more.

Should you be excited? Sure! It’s Battlefield. The formula is tried and tested, and the wait is nearly over. But should we expect EA to keep unnecessarily dragging this reveal out for another week? Sadly, yes.

Now, here’s hoping next week’s multiplayer showcase will finally deliver what we’re all waiting for (and that it’s worth the wait). Fingers crossed. Or in Battlefield speak, ā€œGet ready to blow stuff up, but maybe later.ā€
