Is Chronoscript: The Endless End the Best new game of 2026?
The new Wolverine game seems pretty interesting if you’re into comics, but another game caught my eye instead, that game being Chronoscript: The Endless End. I think a lot of people would agree with me that the State of Play for September 2025 was pretty lackluster. Remakes, war game sequels, and a Microsoft flight simulator? I just don’t see the appeal there.
This game is absolutely gorgeous. I haven’t seen a game this pretty in a long time. Don’t get the wrong idea when I say pretty, though, as the aesthetics of Chronoscript: The Endless End are less like that of pretty flowers and beautiful skies, and more akin to an old family library full of well-worn and weathered books, the scent of bibliosmia, and the drippings of ink spilled but never cleaned.
What is Chronoscript: The Endless End?

Here is our unassuming protagonist, presumably at the start of the game. Our protagonist was sucked into the world of unfinished writings by some magical means upon touching ink on the table, which transported them here. In this world of dusty pages, our protagonist has to learn how to move through Metroidvania-style levels, finding things to arm himself with to face off against monsters and Bosses that have some of the most interesting fights I’ve seen in a while.
To what end, though? Where will our protagonist find themselves after hopping from page to page, unfinished book to unfinished book? What is the goal, and what forces allowed them to end up trapped within these pages in the first place? Some kind of curse caused by the one who wrote all of these unfinished novels, or was there something in the ink?
Final Thoughts
This really is just one of the most gorgeous games I’ve seen in so long. The ambiance, the vibe, is impeccable. It even tries to do things you’d typically see in a Paper Mario game, with real arrows shooting through the literal page that the gameplay is taking place on, knocking around the page that the boss fight is happening within, ink spilling onto the page, and giving the protagonist access to new pathways between unfinished worlds.
Set to release sometime in 2026, I cannot wait to get this game in my hands. I could make comparisons all day, and I will, but that doesn’t fully do this game justice. And I’m not just saying that to inflate the ego of Shueisha Games, I really do believe that Chronoscript: The Endless End will be one of the best games to release next year in 2026, or at the very least, one of the best games to have been announced at the September State of Play 2025. I mean, really, did we actually need another Battlefield?
