Battlefield 6 RedSec Review – A Battle Royale Game that Shouldn’t Exist According to Some But Is This All Just Talk?
Battlefield 6 RedSec was released earlier last week, and the reception has been very mixed among gamers and critics alike. Looking at the Steam reviews, it appears that a negative sentiment was shared among many players against RedSec, and it’s true; you’ll definitely find a lot of those. But I stand to question how genuine and unbiased these reviews are for the game. Here’s my full review of Battlefield 6’s RedSec.
RedSec Full Review and Negative Reception
RedSec is the newest free-to-play Battle Royale game in the Battlefield series, following the release of Battlefield 6, one of the biggest launches the series has seen in years. As I’ve said, this is a free-to-play battle royale game, dropping players into Fort Lyndon, a fictional Blacksite set in a Southern California-inspired map. As a battle royale game, players have to survive and advance in Gauntlet: an all-new, cutthroat, knockout-style elimination mode where squads race to complete missions against each other. Pretty simple.
The Fort Lyndon map is actually pretty small, especially for usual Battlefield map sizes, which makes for a pretty high-octane battle royale experience. Since the game was released last week, Steam reviews haven’t been the nicest. From criticism about the game just existing, to complaints made calling it “battle royale slop” that has no place in Battlefield, it seems players just weren’t all that happy about RedSec. However, this doesn’t necessarily seem like the case.
Community Reactions

Many comments shared the same sentiment, where people just didn’t think the game needed to happen. Because the negativity stems from this specific sentiment, the consensus of the game is skewed and completely biased. Battle royale games aren’t the most popular genre of games, especially among the FPS community, and that definitely carried weight in the conversation. The negative reviews stemmed from a place where people had already made up their minds about RedSec, and not about the actual game mode itself. So, how much credit can you really give to the negativity about RedSec? In my opinion, none.
My Thoughts
The criticism RedSec has received is pretty unfair. If you look at the Steam reviews, almost none of them have anything to do with the game mode itself, and everything to do with the fact that Battlefield came out with a battle royale game. I’ve played a little bit of RedSec, and I enjoyed the hell out of my experience, from traversing the map to the chaos of fighting so many squads in small areas while completing all the missions. Is it the best battle royale game I’ve played? No. But it’s solid and super fun to play with friends and randoms.
