Faker Shows Invaluable Support for Women in Esports at Worlds 2025 Press Conference

Esports is a daunting space for women to navigate. There are plenty of obstacles in their path to success. One of those is the perception that women are less skilled than men in various aspects, an inherently false statement. Public figures make a significant impact on these perceptions. A few days ago, the greatest League of Legends player of all time had valuable words on women in Esports. Words that move us a step in the right direction.

Faker’s Comments on Women in Esports

During the press conference for the Worlds Finals, Faker was asked if he had anything to say to the women who are currently or looking to compete in Esports. His response was translated as follows: “I think one of the greatest strengths of esports is that it isn’t bound by the physical differences. Anyone can participate in the game. The number of female pro players around the world has been increasing. And I hope that in the future, we’ll see more of them shining in-game and delivering exciting performances.”

Why Does this Statement Matter?

After multiple instances in the past month of misogynistic behavior in League, we needed positivity. Women do not feel safe in the space, and there is no way you can blame them for it. Faker is not only the face for League of Legends, but the face of Esports. His words have a significant impact on public perception. Will every man reading Faker’s words change their opinion? Almost definitely not. But every mind affected is a step in the right direction. We have a tall mountain to climb as a community to reach a stage where everyone feels safe.

Nova Series Begins Tomorrow

The LGC 2025 Rising concluded recently with a LAN event hosted in Paris. LGC was the inaugural event featuring women in League of Legends. The event was a stepping stone for the female scene. The tournament is now followed by the Nova Series: Prélude, a French-based League of Legends women-only event. The first qualifier took place on November 8th and 9th. There will be a second qualifier on November 15th-16th. The top two teams in each will qualify for the main event starting on November 23rd.
