Destiny 2 Dev Insights: Weapon Archetypes

Bungie released the Weapon Tuning Preview for the Destiny 2 Renegades expansion. There are numerous changes, including meta-defining updates. We have multiple articles on the preview, with each focusing on a specific section of the sandbox. This article will cover the changes coming to all weapon archetypes in Renegades. Rocket Pulse Rifles are finally receiving a nerf after they dominated the Destiny 2 meta, thanks to Mint Retrograde.

Destiny 2: Weapon Tuning Weapon Archetypes

All information is per the Destiny 2 Weapon Tuning Article released by Bungie yesterday.

Sidearms

Some long-barreled Sidearms and older Sidearms with silencers/extended barrels have had their firing animation altered.

Submachine Guns

Submachine Guns will become more stable on controller, and Lightweight Submachine Guns have an increased Falloff Scalar when scoped.

Pulse Rifles

Rapid Fire Pulse Rifles, base and critical damage are increased slightly.

Bows

All bows are seeing their draw time decreased. Lightweight Bows have the same minimum draw time, but the base value when affected by a perk is reduced. All Compound Bows have had their draw times dropped.

Fusion Rifles

All Fusion Rifles will have their charge times slightly increased. All but Rapid Fires will get a damage increase. High Impacts are receiving the more significant buff to their damage.

Shotguns

All pellet Shotguns are getting a damage buff in Renegades. Aggressive Shotguns are getting the most significant increase in damage. Only Aggressive and Lightweight Frames are seeing their damage increase in PvP.

Slug Shotguns

Rapid Fire Slug Shotguns have an increase of 50 RPM with Assault Mag. In Renegades, this will be removed as it is a bug. They are getting a damage buff to compensate. All Slugs are seeing their Aim Assist Cone size reduced. Pinpoint Slugs are seeing their damage reduced, but getting an increase in damage falloff scalar alongside Heavy Burst Slugs.

Snipers

The flinch resistance for players holding Sniper Rifles in PvP is being increased.

Rocket Pulse Rifles

The base reserve ammo for Rocket Pulse Rifles is going from 18 to 14, and they will receive one less ammo per enhanced brick.

Swords

Bungie has fixed the issues that caused the Slashening. Empty Sword swing damage is reduced and no longer scales with melee buffs. Ascension will also not activate Sword perks.

Final Thoughts

Rocket Pulse Rifles needed a nerf. Mint Retrograde has been the go-to for Destiny 2 players in Edge of Fate. The reserve ammo nerf might not be enough. The weapon is still versatile, but at least its total damage is nerfed. The other changes are not significant and should not have a dramatic effect on the sandbox.
