Resident Evil Requiem ditches Multiplayer

Resident Evil Requiem Dev Reveals Why Multiplayer Was Ditched

The release of Resident Evil Requiem is just around the corner, and the devs are revealing small tidbits here and there for fans, clearing things up and deep diving into some of the design choices on the game. For instance, why did the devs consider making this new installment an Open-World multiplayer game, and consequently, why did they decide to ditch this idea? Here’s what Resident Evil Requiem producer, Masato Kumazawa, had to say about it.

Resident Evil Requiem Had Multiplayer In the Beginning

Earlier in the year, it was revealed that one of the earliest ideas for Resident Evil Requiem was to make it an Open-World multiplayer game. Not much is known about the multiplayer concept of the game or what it would’ve looked like, except that it was scrapped early on in development because feedback from players insisted that they preferred traditional offline single-player gameplay. The Resident Evil series is not known for multiplayer gameplay, except in Resident Evil Re: Verse, which was not well recieved, so it was expected that the idea would not hold with long-time fans of the series. Here’s what Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa had to say about it.

Devs Ditched Multiplayer for More Horror

Masato Kumazawa has been busy dropping information about Resident Evil Requiem, especially with its release coming up in about 3 months. He’s been answering a lot of questions and concerns from fans about the game, and here’s what he had to say in an interview with Press Start about Resident Evil Requiem multiplayer and why devs had ditched the idea altogether.

“Looking at the game when it was multiplayer, the horror part was very mild. However, in that build, we made a game that was fun to play. But we looked deeply into this game and wondered if a fan of the franchise would really like this, so we thought they would probably wouldn’t enjoy it as much. That’s the reason we made it back into single player. But because it was fun, we added elements from that build to the final game to ensure it was fun.”

Resident Evil Requiem is set to release in 3 short months. Capcom and players are getting ready for this hyped up incredible launch, and I can’t wait to see what else the devs have to say about the titular game until its release.
