A New and Thrilling Trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds

We have some amazing news for fans of CAPCOM’s world-renowned series Monster Hunter. During the PlayStation State of Play, we got a new and larger look at Monster Hunter Wilds. The trailer is only about three minutes long, but countless speculations can be made from the footage. From giving us a glance at the amazing environment to introducing us to just a new of the new monsters, this trailer is packed with detail for those who choose to rewatch it dozens of times.

After doing so myself and finding a new detail almost every time, I can now happily give you a breakdown of what we can see in the trailer. I can also give you some details about what we know about the plot of Monster Hunter Wilds so far.

The Story of Monster Hunter Wilds So Far

Monster Hunter Wilds Story 1

Thanks to CAPCOM and the official Monster Hunter website, which appears to have been quite recently updated, we have a summary of the story and the lands you will explore in Wilds. Hunters will be tasked to explore a region referred to as the Forbidden Lands. It is a place with ever-changing and harsh environments, which has led the creatures that live there to adapt and overcome. It also influenced the humans who reside there to establish a unique kind of culture.

You will take on the role of a member of the Research Commission tasked with exploring the Forbidden Lands. The first area that will be explored within the game is called the Windward Plains. This is also the environment featured in both of the trailers released so far. It’s a region that’s filled to the brim with deserts, grasslands, and giant rock formations. Each area that hunters explore will have two sides to them. One side contains an unforgiving environment where monsters fight for resources while the other features a vibrant and lively land.

You will venture forth with the help of your handy mount, which has been revealed to be called a Seikret. It’s a creature with a powerful sense of smell that will help guide you to quest objectives or anywhere on the map. For those who played Monster Hunter World, this may seem similar to the scoutflies you carry around. Similar to the Palamute in Rise, you’ll be able to heal, sharpen your weapons, and gather items while riding on its back. You’ll also be able to store an extra weapon in its weapons sling, meaning you’ll be able to switch between the two.

A Brief Glimpse of the New Monster Roster

Of course, with every new title in the Monster Hunter franchise, we need to discover and conquer new monsters with hideous, adorable, or cool looks. Thankfully, this new trailer introduced us to just a few. My favorite is what appears to be a cross between a crocodile and a frog. This bright green and spiky monster is known as Chatacabra, an amphibious species that can use its sticky saliva to glue stone to their limbs to give their attacks some extra power. Chatacabra reminds me of the ferocious Deviljho but in a more compact size.

A fanged and furry beast called Doshaguma was also shown. Sometimes seen in large packs, this creature is known to be quite aggressive towards other monsters and humans. If you watch the trailer closely, you can even see one carrying away a smaller monster in its mouth as well as using one as a weapon. The smaller monster in both of those cases is Ceratonoth. Herds of them can be seen in the trailer, and they are far more calm than the groups of Doshaguma.

Also seen in the trailer are groups of other monsters, but as of right now we don’t know the names for them. We can see multiple small species of birds, which I hope are able to be captured to keep as pets like in World. Herds of small horned monsters can also be seen with one being attacked by something that looks similar to a crocodile. Groups of raptor-like monsters also appear in the trailer, and there’s even a scene with a few of them attacking a Chatacabra.

Taking a Look at the Characters

Just like with every other Monster Hunter game, you will experience the joy of getting to know the group of allies that you’ll be meeting in Monster Hunter World. At this time, there’s only a few faces with names. Alma is the name of the Handler for your hunter. She’ll manage your quests and even accompany you at certain points. Gemma will be the beloved smithy, the one responsible for turning your loot into weapons and armor. You’ll also meet Nata, a mysterious young boy who will also tag along.

Taking a look at your player character and the companions you’ll meet, it’s easy to see that the character models in Wilds have vastly improved. To me, they seem absolutely amazing in terms of looks and voices. Speaking of voices, judging by this trailer alone, there appears to be more voice acting in this game compared to past titles. What I noticed while watching the trailer is that the player character might be able to speak in cut scenes. This is something that has never happened in any other Monster Hunter game.

Your Palico companion seems to get some voice lines too, which outside of Monster Hunter Stories, hasn’t happened before either. While I do enjoy the regular cat noises that they make in previous titles, I will be ecstatic to hear my little furry friend speak if that is really the case. Along with being able to customize both the player characters and the loyal Palicoes, hearing both of them speak will add a greater level of immersion to many new and experienced hunters.

Speculations and More News Ahead

As I’ve stated, just watching this trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds over and over can easily spark speculation in the minds of those who know and love this franchise. I can likely write an entire article based on my predictions alone and the smaller details found in the trailer. However, I will keep my theories to myself for now until we learn even more about the game. Like many hunters, I’m practically itching for even more detail, but I will practice my patience, especially since this game has a 2025 release date.

Luckily, it seems like we won’t have to wait for that information for long since CAPCOM will be attending this year’s Summer Game Fest along with dozens of other names in the video game industry. Ryozo Tsujimoto will be taking the stage on June 7 to deliver even more details and give us even more footage. It’s an event we at Total Apex Gaming will be watching closely along with all the gaming news happening in June.
