Black Ops 7’s PC Launch Is Off To An Awful Start With Battlefield Boasting Triple Its Players
Call of Duty Black Ops 7 launched yesterday, a month after Battlefield 6’s widely successful global launch. The game is the newest installment in the 15-year-old series; however, it seems the new COD game has hit a little snag in yesterday’s launch. Comparing it to Battlefield 6’s record-breaking launch, which sold over a million pre-order copies of the game 18 days before launch, while Black Ops 7 struggled to sell even 200,000, it doesn’t look so good for the FPS behemoth. Here’s all that happened during the game’s launch.
Black Ops 7 Disappointing PC Launch Day
According to data from SteamDB, 62,938 players were on the Call of Duty Steam launcher when Black Ops 7 launched this morning. Around 40,000 players were playing it just a few hours earlier. That means only 23,000 extra players joined in for the midnight launch of the game. Roughly the same number of players were playing the game on October 26. This does not bode well, especially when comparing these stats to Battlefield 6’s launch day.
Comparing it to Battlefield 6
Comparing Black Ops 7’s stats to Battlefield 6’s opening day, the latter game definitely blows the former out of the water. According to data from Alinea Analytics, Battlefield 6 has sold over 10 million copies. During Battlefield 6’s launch day, the game retained triple the player count at that time, with 191,764 players still online during Black Ops 7’s launch.
Several factors contributed to the way these statistics unfolded over the past month. Players who’ve experienced both games’ open beta sessions pretty much made up their mind about both games in terms of performance, gameplay, and overall enjoyment. Players had more positive things to say about Battlefield 6 than Black Ops 7, and both games have been constantly compared with each other for the past few months, given their close release dates. Does Black Ops 7 have the chance to redeem itself if given more time? Maybe. However, we must wait to see how things unfold and whether players will give the game a chance.
