Well, the wait is almost over! Doom The Dark Ages drops on May 15, 2025, and everything shown so far makes one thing brutally clear: the devs have created a brutal medieval underworld deserving of the name Doom.

The Slayer is back—and this time he’s ditching high-tech corridors and futuristic(ish) machinery for cathedrals, crypts, and cosmic horrors (as he does) that don’t really care about how many BFGs you have in your inventory.

If you’re in the loop, you already know what’s going down and how we are looking at a different setting for this favorite series. We have more armor, more grit, and weapons that look like they walked out of a medieval forge.

Let’s break down what’s coming our way—along with some interesting tools of destruction that look fun to master.

Doom the Dark Ages: New Era, New Arsenal

Doom The Dark Ages is shifting the series’ DNA a few feet to the left and a few centuries back. Instead of gun-and-run, we have fun, smash, parry, chain, and gun (cause what’s a Doom game with guns?) 

The pace still looks fast, but now combat leans more heavily into melee, tactical parrying, and controlling the space around you. No more just turning in a circle and shooting wildly (that’s a lie, players will still do it!).

Don’t worry, though, Doom fans! We’ll still have a shotgun and a rocket launcher! We can’t wait to see how they work those into a game called Doom The Dark Ages, it’s a nice twist if anything!

The real MVPs are going to be weapons that make blacksmiths weep with joy (or terror, cause the Slayer is the one who ordered them).

Weapons You Should Pay Attention To

• Flail: Chaos on a chain

If you’re the type who likes their weapons unpredictable but with equal parts devastation, then the Flail is your new best friend. Who could ask for more than a spiked metal ball on a chain? Subtlety is useless, swing it wide and control the crowd with Doom signature violence.

• Mace: Pure, Simple, Crushing Power

You want to keep it classic? Then the mace is the weapon you’re going to gravitate to. It’s perfect for staggering enemies while breaking their armor into little chunks of regret (regret for challenging you). Show these demons that physics is a thing and you are the master of it.

• Shield Saw: Defend and Dismember

Yes, you read that right. Shield Saw! A workable shield whose dual purpose to protect you while also becoming a frisbee of doom! Demon standing in your way? Crank the shield saw and let it fly and there is no longer a problem! 

Best part, it comes back to you!

• Reaver Chainshot: Swing, Slam, Repeat

This one is standing out! It’s a modified gun that shoots not bullets, but a flail ball on a chain! It’s a wee bit more advanced, tech speaking, but what’s there to hate about a fun that’ll bash demons in the face!

So satisfying!

Doom The Dark Ages isn’t going to be about keeping a distance and sniping your problems away! Nope, in true Slayer fashion, you’re going to be in the muck and stacking bodies left and right! May 15th is going to be a rampager’s dream when Doom The Dark Ages finally drops!
