Hytale Secures Funding for Two Years of Development
Hytale has officially secured funding for its development for the next two years. Yesterday, Simon Collins-Laflamme, founder and CEO of Hypixel Studios Canada, announced this milestone for the Minecraft-inspired action RPG on X (formerly Twitter). Players can pre-purchase the game in its early access state right now. While the game requires an internet connection for installing the launcher and continuous updates, the game supports offline play.
How are the Hytale Servers?
As of writing, Hytale’s servers are “at, or beyond, capacity,” due to the immense number of players trying to access the game via the Hytale launcher, according to Insider-Gaming’s Andrew Highton. Highton added that Hytale’s servers can impact the memory and space required to install or update the game and its contents.
Hytale came a long way after Riot Games, the game’s original publisher, cancelled the game in 2025, after five years in development. Hypixel purchased the rights to the game, later in 2025, and essentially rebuilt the game from the ground up. Collins-Laflamme said it was a “damn miracle” to restore the game to a playable state.
How Popular is the Game?
Currently, the game’s announcement trailer from December 13, 2018 has over 62 million views. The game reportedly had over one million players who pre-purchased the game. Simon Collins-Laflamme said on X:
“Pleased to announce that we have officially secured the next two years of development costs through pre-purchases. Combined with my personal commitment of ten years, we are looking very strong for the future ❤️
Thank you all for the support.
Hytale is saved.
We are almost home.”
Hypixel Studios Canada now has over 50 employees, mostly people who worked on the game when Hypixel worked under Riot Games. Collins-Laflamme’s 10-year dedication to the game refers to his involvement and continued involvement, whether or not the game succeeds.
Why isn’t Hytale on Steam?

The game is not available on Steam at the moment, because the developers wanted to avoid negative reviews during the early access stage. The game’s Standard Edition is $20, and Hypixel Studios Canada plans on releasing the game for consoles. The game currently does not have controller support, which can affect accessibility settings.
Hytale’s executive director Patrick ‘Lyall’ Derbic said that the studio prefers the opinions of “informed players” rather than “large-scale first impressions from those unfamiliar with the game’s development background,” also noting the possibility that Steam may not be a platform needed in the future.
Debric added, “It’s important to note that Steam currently doesn’t support some of our modding features; we will be in contact with Valve in the near future to see what’s possible.”
Debric also said that Hytale will not have a mobile version during the early access period, but the team will try to make a mobile version a “feasible reality.” He also said that Hypixel’s goal is to make a good game first.
One person commented regarding Hypixel’s hesitance to release the game on Steam. They wrote:
“Smart. Steam reviews are straight up useless these days. I mean the words might not be but the pass/fail system doesn’t allow for any nuance and plenty of weirdos just love leaving negative reviews while crying about deserving more from game devs.
Gamers have gotten too weirdly entitled for reviews to be meaningful. So many mixed or poorly reviewed games have been joys for me to play. Most gamers should be able to easily tell what kinds of games they would like.”
How Can I Support Hytale?
Hytale has three versions for pre-purchase: the $20 Standard version, the $35 Supporter version and the $70 Cursebreaker/Founder’s Edition. The game’s description reads, “Our Early Access release focuses on polished core systems – exploration, responsive combat, and robust building – alongside creator‑first tools for making your own content, crafting minigames, and running community servers.”
