Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Could Have Exciting New Surprises in 2026
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, released earlier this year, took Sonic the Hedgehog and friends through a dimension-hopping racing frenzy with twenty-three playable characters. In addition, DLC packs let Sonic travel to other franchises. Now, the game’s developers are hinting that there might be more content to come in 2026.
Are Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds “Surprises” Coming Soon?
In a translated Famitsu interview, several Sega developers discussed their plans for 2026, and a couple of them teased at possible updates for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Ken Kobayakawa, the director of the game, stated:
“In September 2025, ‘Sonic Racing CrossWorlds’ was released. ‘Sega Rally,’ which has been injected with more than 30 years of racing game know-how, and has been well received by people around the world. We plan to deliver the service throughout the season in 2026, but we have prepared many more amazing surprises than when it was released. We will make it a year that surprises everyone with the ‘fun of games’ that is typical of a team from the arcade!”
In addition, Shun Nakamura, director of the Sonic series, had this to say: “’Sonic Racing CrossWorlds’ was enjoyed by many users through various collaborations last year. This year, we will continue to liven up the cross-world festival! What kind of collaboration will come? Stay tuned!”
So, What Does All This Mean?

The game already has DLC packs that let you race in the worlds of Minecraft and even “SpongeBob SquarePants.” An upcoming DLC pack will also combine the worlds of Sonic and Pac-Man. So, what other surprises could be coming in 2026? Perhaps Sega will collaborate with other game companies to create other crossovers. Or, perhaps Sega will introduce other Sega franchises into the mix, such as ToeJam and Earl or Like a Dragon.
Since Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is available on the Nintendo Switch 2, perhaps Sega could even score a deal with Nintendo. Mario and Sonic have already crossed over in the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games and Super Smash Bros. series, after all. Perhaps there could even be a double DLC pack that adds a Mario section to CrossWorlds and a Sonic section to Mario Kart World. That could be amazing.
Wait, How Much Will This Cost?
Since CrossWorlds already costs $70 for the base game, people might be hesitant to buy too many DLC packs. However, you don’t need to buy everything in order to have a great time. You can pick and choose your favorite franchises. If Sega wishes, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds could even become a massive crossover game that mixes Sonic with franchises you would never imagine. The surprises in store for 2026 are sure to be amazing.
