Space Within new Bioshock Inspired Indie Game

Space Within: A First-Person Action Game with a Psychological Twist

Space Within is an upcoming first-person action game (release date TBD) that will delve into a character’s troubled mind, revealing layers of difficulties that he must deal with. Taking inspiration from games like Bioshock, the game will use a first-person shooter format to explore psychological torment.

About Space Within

Developed by Binary Fantasies, Space Within tells the story of Jack, who suffered hallucinations as a child, but he found solace in a video game called Out Into Space. As an adult, his hallucinations return, and he ends up hospitalized. Now, he delves into his mind, taking on the persona of his video game hero from his childhood.

The official website states the following about the game:

“Space Within draws inspiration from German Expressionism, blending a striking visual style of gameplay that evokes the immersive action of BioShock and the psychological intensity of Layers of Fear. The result is a rich and mesmerizing adventure that balances narrative depth with visceral gameplay.”

The Space Within Trailers

Binary Fantasies has put up two trailers for the game. The first trailer shows first-person exploration through sci-fi environments that dramatically shift between light and darkness. The trailer says that the game can be wishlisted on Steam now, but the Steam link goes to Binary Fantasies’ other game in development, Of Dust and Light.

The second trailer is longer and shows enemies that look like floating coats with laser rings as heads. That’s the best way I can describe them. An unknown narrator recites a rhyme as the player picks up orbs and trudges through vast landscapes of mountains and fields. The graphics look quite impressive for an indie game.

So, When Is Space Within Coming Out?

Ah, there’s the rub. The trailers were posted on YouTube three years ago, as Binary Fantasies had to freeze production in favor of their newer title, Of Dust and Light. However, the trailers are still on YouTube, and Space Within is still listed on Binary Fantasies’ official website. Perhaps after Of Dust and Light comes out, they will finally finish up Space Within. I’ll definitely wishlist it when they do.
