Teamfight Tactics 14.5 Patch Drastic Item Changes Aggravate the Fanbase

The items in Teamfight Tactics have stayed the same for quite some time. The last major item overhaul was the addition of new artifacts and support items during Set 11: Inkborn Fables. Patch 14.5 of Set 14 sees drastic changes to the item system, with some items getting replaced, reworked, and even new ones. The overhaul should shake up the best-in-slot items for some units.

Teamfight Tactics Item Swaps

Redemption -> Spirit Visage

• Stats
  • 150 Health
  • 15 Mana
  • 10% Durability
  • Restore 2.5% of missing Health each second

Riot Comments: They want a greedier frontline item that gets placed on your primary tank instead of as a support tank item. The Anima Visage artifact item is removed, with Redemption becoming Spirit Visage.

Runaan’s Hurricane -> Kraken’s Fury

• Stats
  • 25 Attack Damage
  • 10% Attack Speed
  • 20 Magic Resist
  • Attacks grant 3% stacking Attack Damage

Riot Comments: Runaan’s Hurricane has been a niche item, so they are replacing it. They are looking at adding something similar as an artifact item later on. Kraken’s Fury allows Attack Speed champions to stack Attack Damage. The Category Five Augment will be disabled.

Statikk Shiv -> Void Staff

• Stats
  • 35% Ability Power
  • 15 Mana
  • 10% Attack Speed
  • Attacks and Magic damage shred 30% of target’s Magic Resist for 3 seconds (non-stacking)

Riot Comments: Balancing the burst and support roles of Statikk Shiv became arduous for Developers. A version of Statikk will become an artifact item, while Void Staff will become the new Shred item, functioning similarly to Last Whisper. Shock Treatment will no longer appear for the remainder of Cyber City.

Item Reworks

Guinsoo’s Rageblade

• Stats
  • 10% Ability Power (unchanged)
  • 10% Attack Speed (unchanged)
  • Attacks grant 5% stacking Attack Speed -> Grants 6% stacking Attack Speed per second

Riot Comments: With Rageblade stacking on attacks, it made stacking Rageblades the best play for Attack Speed Hungry champions. The new Rageblade will make it more consistent and allow more design space and creativity.

Sterak’s Gage

• Stats
  • Health: 150 -> 250
  • Attack Damage: 15 -> 30
  • Omnivamp: 0 -> 10%
  • Shield: At 60% Health, gain an 80% max HP Shield that decays over 4 seconds

Riot Comments: The new Sterak’s Gage shield should make its benefits more appealing and have a similar feel to Edge of Night.

Guardbreaker renamed to Striker’s Flail

• Stats
• 150 Health
• 15% Attack Speed
• 20% Crit Chance
• 10% Damage Amp
• Crits grant 5% Damage Amp for 5 seconds, stacking up to 3 times.

Riot Comments: The Damage Amp functioning off damaging shields made it better on AoE-based champions. The item will have more functionality and pairs excellently with other crit items.

New Artifacts 

Flickerblade

• Stats
  • 15% Attack Speed
  • 10 AD and AP
  • Attacks grant 5% stacking Attack Speed. Every 5 attacks also grant 4 Attack Damage and 5 Ability Power.

Riot Comments: The multiplicative Attack Speed ramping item.

Indomitable Gauntlet

• Stats 
  • 450 Health
  • 20 Armor and MR
  • The holder’s Move Speed is drastically reduced. Gain 10% max Health, stun immunity, and pull the current target into melee range.

Riot Comments: Functions similarly to the Deep Roots Anomaly from Set 13. Indomitable Gauntlet acts as the more generic tank option to replace Anima Visage

Statikk Shiv

• Stats 
  • 25 AP
  • 20% Attack Speed
  • Every 3rd attack deals 50 + 50% of the holder’s Ability Power as bonus magic damage to 4 enemies.

Riot Comments: As an artifact item, Statikk Shiv becomes an item for AP/AS carries. It will no longer have Shred, so players must pair it with Ionic Spark or Void Staff for those properties.

Titanic Hydra

• Stats
  • 300 Health
  • 15 AD
  • 15 Attack Speed
  • Attacks deal 3% of the holder’s max Health plus 25% of their Attack Damage as bonus physical damage to the target and adjacent enemies.

Riot Comments: Titanic Hydra will fulfill a similar fantasy to Runaan’s Hurricane, but primarily for AD Bruisers. There are none in Set 14, but think of units like Ambessa or Warwick, which are ideal for the artifact item.
