Teamfight Tactics Set 16: The Two Facets of Yordle For Success
In past Teamfight Tactics’ sets, Yordle has almost explicitly been a reroll trait. In Set 16, Yordles are played in two ways. You can reroll for three-star units or play a fast 8/9. The extra resources gained from Yordle allow you to transition to a late-game board. The rerolls granted are getting nerfed in the upcoming Teamfight Tactics B-Patch, but the strategy should work. Which five costs you look to play depends on what is best at the time, or what you can hit.

Teamfight Tactics: Yordle Reroll

This version of Yordles is straightforward. You want to try and hit as many three-star Yordles as possible. You generally want to level to six before rolling. Being at level six allows you to get the free rerolls. Prioritize Tristana, Teemo, and Poppy. Hitting the other units is a luxury. Lulu is the least important as she gets replaced by Ziggs later.
If you are close to finding your units, you can level. The guaranteed Yordle in each round’s shop and Yordle Grab Bags almost guarantee you will find them. You can play for Fizz or Veigar three-star as the ultimate cap. Veigar’s unlock requirements make him a situational choice. If you play Veigar, you must keep Lulu in for Arcanist until you get a better Arcanist like Swain. Yordle reroll has a lower cap unless you manage to hit a three-star four-cost.
Teamfight Tactics: Fast Level Yordle
Play around early two-star Yordles. Ideally, look to slam items to maintain health and keep tempo. Prioritize levels over rerolling. Hitting six and eight Yordle early is imperative. Doing so grants the free rerolls and, later, the Grab Bags. Continue to level nine. Once you reach that stage, you can sell the majority of your Yordles in favor of better 5-costs.
Play around the units you hit and the items you have. Ideally, you find the best five costs for that patch. With nerfs coming to Senna and Kindred, your best option is Annie. Try to hit Sylas as well for max cap. However, getting to that stage requires you to find two-star Jarvan IV, which may be difficult at level nine. You will need at least one econ augment to reach a late-game board in time.
