Henry Halfhead: A Quirky Adventure About Enjoying the Little Things From a Unique Perspective

What would you do if you had the power to become anything in the world? I’m not talking about becoming an astronaut or a dancer, but literally anything. Well, in Henry Halfhead, you have that power, and it’s quite a quirky and charming adventure that explores those possibilities.

Henry Halfhead is a game that is part puzzle, part physics sandbox, and all parts delightful absurdity. You play as Henry, who, as the game title suggests, is literally half a head. He’s a small, curious being with the incredible power to possess and control any inanimate object he can reach. Just like any child would want to pick something up and see what it is. Life’s “mundane” routes become hilarious, creative puzzles with Henry’s unique ability.

Developed by the aptly named Lululu Entertainment, Henry Halfhead’s story is just about going through Henry’s life of the usual day-to-day steps, like making toast or getting to work on time. All the while, it is narrated by a slightly bemused and charming storyteller who reacts to your weird shenanigans.

What makes this game stand out is its commitment to playfulness and the push to experiment with any and every object. What happens if I become a coffee maker? Can I use this broom to launch myself across the room? It’s a joyful celebration of curiosity, proving that even the most ordinary day can be an extraordinary adventure if you look at it (or in this case, become it) from that point of view.

The Weird and Wonderful Gameplay

The gameplay loop is simple and opportunistic as you enter a new area, assess the situation, and then start possessing objects to solve the puzzle at hand. Each object has unique properties that you can inherit. For example, a ball can roll, a spring can bounce, or paper can be folded into a plane to be flown. The engaging genius is the need to combine these abilities. You need to be the apple to roll it on a plate, and then possess a knife to slice the apple.

The physics engine is your best friend and worst enemy, leading to moments of both genius and gut-busting failure. You’ll spend half your time executing a perfect, multi-step plan and the other half accidentally flinging yourself into a wall because you became a bar of soap at the wrong moment. It’s a game that doesn’t punish you for failing; it just gives you another opportunity to try something even more ridiculous.

Exploring new paths isn’t fun by yourself, so the devs added a co-op feature. You and a friend can team up to cause double the chaos, collaboratively solving puzzles or, more likely, competitively trying to see who can make the bigger mess. It’s the perfect couch co-op game for when you just want to laugh, and with over 250 objects at your disposal, it promises hours of fun.

Final Thoughts: Henry Halfhead is a Whole Lot of Fun

In a world of gritty, high-stakes action games, Henry Halfhead is a comforting, low-stakes delight. Every day routes are turned into whimsical quests, similar in essence to the Little Big Planet game series. The story itself is a heartwarming journey through Henry’s life, reminding us to stay curious and find the fun in our daily routines. I would say that if you just want to play something straightforward to make you feel better, give this strange little Halfhead child a chance to make your day a bit brighter.
