When looking for a new video game to play, especially first-person shooter games, Valorant. The multiplayer game is a good way to go.
Yet Valorant is different then most first-person shooters.
When playing the game, you are given a choice to choose an avatar known as ‘Agents.’ Each agent is different because they are all separated into 4 different classes: Controllers, Duelists, Sentinels, and Initiators.
Each agent has 4 different powers that are unique to them, including a one-time use alt.
Yet with so many choices to choose from, how do you know which agent to start with as a new player to the game?
Sage: Sentinel Agent
https://://gty.im/1424937273
Sage is one of my all-time favorites when I end up taking Valorant for a spin.
Sage, as her name says, is the ‘Healer Agent.’ She can give an upper hand to whichever team she is playing for.
Sage’s abilities can quite literally heal her team when they are low in health, which has a 30-second countdown after use. She is also able to use this ability on herself and with a bit of distance from the player she is trying to heal. This power is her main one, the “Healing Orb.”
Alone with the healing orb, Sage can create a barricade that can block off entrances on the map that you are playing on or block off from being shot and having a safe place to get a quick sense of what is going on. This is called “Barrier Orb.”
Her third power is called “Slow Orb.” Taken from its name, it’s an orb that Sage can fire at her enemies and if it lands on target, capturing them, they are weakened and slowed down making them a much easier kill. Careful though, you can also get trapped.
But with Sage, as one of the original 10 agents, she was given an alt. (one-time use until regenerated power) that the older Agents didn’t get close to having.
If you happen to be killed when playing by the enemy, Sage can resurrect you from the dead so you can continue to play in the round. This alt is used very rarely.
While her abilities can help her teammates, she is in the sentinel class and is better used as a defensive player.
Jett: Duelist Agent
Jett, my go-to if Sage just happens to be unavailable. Very well known for her wind-like powers.
Jett is part of the duelist class, which in my opinion is one of the easier classes to play. It’s the class for you if you happen to run into things before searching it out.
Jett is remembered for her super speed power which “uses” the wind to propel her forward at a fast pace, becoming available again after every 2 kills. This is known as Tail Wind.
Cloudburst, another wind-like power that has a cool animation when cast, acts like a cover and hides you from your enemies for a surprise attack or just to hide. While it is only briefly, it can be used twice.
And since she can propel herself forward, why not up? “Updraft” gives Jett the ability to jump up and get to high places or surprise the enemy with sudden movement.
Jett’s alt is also one that is a very interesting use. Known as “Blade Storm,” Jett is given the ability to have six sets of knives that are highly accurate when thrown. After every kill, they are recharged. If you fire all of them though, you cannot get them back.
She is a fun agent to play, and it is enjoyable to use her floating trick when getting down from somewhere high.
Pheonix: Duelist Agent
https://://gty.im/1597716860
Pheonix, also part of the duelist class, is an agent that is also easy and enjoyable to play as a beginner.
With his star and fire powers, he can burn the enemies to the ground, literally.
Phoenix can create a wall that is made of fire called “Blaze,” injuring the opposing team if they happen to accidentally walk threw it or get too close. But beware, while this injures the enemy, you can also get injured as well.
Along with the firewall, Phoenix is also able to throw a fire orb at his enemies. Just like Sage’s “Slow Obr,” Phoenix’s is used the same. The only difference is that his fire orb injures the players that it lands on. This is called “Hot Hands.”
Curveball is also a fun use. When thrown, the flare orb blocks out everyone’s view if they happen to look at it or in its direction.
Phoenix’s alt. is also a good one to use when scouting out the area. He can set a marker where he can be set back if needed, like if he is in danger or needs backup. The marker brings Phoenix back to full health and however much armor he had when he cast the alt. As the power description implies, it’s known as “Run it Back.”
While Phoenix is good at attacking others, he can also harm his teammates in the crossfire. A bonus to his abilities though is that he can heal himself with the fire cast from them.
With 3 different agents that are easy to play and have powers that can be mastered and figured out easily, there are another 19 to choose from if neither Sage, Jett, nor Pheonix peeks your eye when playing.
Fare warning, the other agents might be a bit harder to play as different abilities are harder than others. Jett, Sage, and Phenix just happen to be easier for beginners to play with when starting the game. Don’t look down on them though, if played by the right person, they can become absolute weapons.
Valorant is a game that anyone can play and is also played in esports. And all you need is a PC to play the game.
Now that you have an idea of who to play and their abilities, get to playing! And remember, as a shooter game, the abilities don’t matter as much as the player’s ability to shoot.
