All About the Mysterious Abbi from Omori in 2024

All About Abbi Omori

Omori is a horror RPG with a lot of strange and mysterious characters, and the optional boss Abbi is one such character. Where is she, and how can she be unlocked? What importance does she have in the game’s story? Let’s dive into the information we have about Abbi.

The Hikikomori Route

Omori features two main routes: the Sunny route, in which Sunny confronts the memories he’s been suppressing for the past 4 years, and the Omori or Hikikomori route, where he continues to suppress those memories. Abbi is only accessible in the latter, though her tentacles can be found across Headspace even when in a Sunny route.

The days of the game are known as “Three Days Left”, “Two Days Left”, “One Day Left”, and “Moving Day”. On both Three Days Left and Two Days Left, Kel will knock on Sunny’s door to ask him to come outside so they can spend time together. If Sunny refuses to open the door on both of those days, this will trigger a Hikikomori route. This includes opening the door on Three Days Left but refusing to open it on Two Days Left. However, refusing to open the door on Three Days Left and opening it on Two Days Left will instead trigger a Sunny route.

Regardless of which route is triggered, on Two Days Left a Branch Coral can be found in Deeper Well. The Branch Coral will offer to answer questions, one of them being about the Big Yellow Cat that can be seen in the first room of Headspace. According to the Branch Coral, the Big Yellow Cat is one of three “great creatures”: the oldest, the wisest, and the favorite. While the Big Yellow Cat is the favorite, Abbi is implied to be the wisest. She is said to have done something that went against the Dreamer’s will and was punished by being banished and stripped of her wisdom.

On a Hikikomori route, Abbi can be found by collecting all 26 of the Hangman Keys. This unlocks access to an optional area called the Abyss, which is where Abbi has been banished. Approaching her will start the boss fight, during which she can summon tentacles while also attacking the party. Upon her defeat, she can either be spared or not spared. Sparing her unlocks powerful weapons and equipment for the party members which can be obtained from her tentacles scattered across Headspace, whereas killing her unlocks a charm.

Relevance to the Story

The game doesn’t come right out and say what it was that Abbi did to go against the Dreamer’s will. However, she addresses Omori as Dreamer, and the game eventually reveals that he is Sunny’s alter ego who was created to allow Sunny to hide from his traumatic memories. Several times over the 4 years before the start of the game, Sunny’s subconscious mind would start to remember, only for him to suppress the memories again.

It’s very likely then that Abbi either talked directly about the traumatic memories themselves or instructed Sunny to stop suppressing the memories. Since this goes against why Sunny’s alter ego was created, Abbi would have been punished for this so Sunny could go back to dreaming and forgetting.

Connections to Beta Characters

While it isn’t stated in the game, fans have noticed similarities in Abbi’s design and the design of a beta character known as Tako. These beta characters were once part of the game’s story but were removed before it was released. However, their sprites can still be found in the game’s files, and they can be found as hidden easter eggs in some of the later areas of the game. Both Tako and Abbi share tentacles as their design motifs, and the two also both have connections to Deeper Well. Tako’s easter egg appearance sees her appearing alongside creatures from Deeper Well, and the Abbys are accessed from Deeper Well.

Final Thoughts

Omori is a game full of mysteries and hidden details, which all hint at the final truth of Sunny’s traumatic memories. While Abbi can’t be encountered in the route where Sunny faces his trauma head-on and moves forward, the player can still learn about her. She, along with many other characters in the game, is an interesting look into the deeper narrative implied by the game.
