Are you ready to pig out in Animal Crossing: New Horizons? Agnes might be the one who brings home the bacon. The Animal Crossing series is renowned for its vast cast of characters, with villagers playing a central role in its gameplay. Villagers enhance your community experience by offering daily tasks and opportunities for friendship. Here is what you need to know about one of these villagers named Agnes.
Who is Agnes?
Agnes is a black pig villager introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the Nintendo 3DS. She has the sisterly personality, a female personality type that also debuted in New Leaf. Sisterly villagers—sometimes called big sisters or uchi—are essentially a mixture of the other female personality types. They will come across as tomboyish, even blunt and stubborn at first, but eventually become quite caring and protective of the player. Agnes is the only pig villager in the series with this personality. In New Horizons she has the “play” hobby, meaning she can often be found running about with her stubby arms outstretched. Her birthday is on April 21, making her a Taurus.
Her name derives from the Agū pig, the species from which she is likely based. This is clearer in the Japanese version of the games, where her name is transliterated as Agunesu. The Agū is the only pig breed native to Japan and is primarily reared in Okinawa. It is believed the species was introduced into Japan from China roughly 600 years ago. Agū pork formed an important basis of Okinawa’s food culture until World War II’s Battle of Okinawa ravaged much of the livestock. Most Agū pigs available for purchase are hybrids, usually mixed with western breeds like Berkshire or Durocs. Agnes is a little cute for culinary delights, but she does make a fun addition to your island.
How to Get Agnes
Getting Agnes to join your community may have you sweating like a pig. Potentially, she can show up as a random visitor to your campsite. You can recruit her here after a series of games and conversations, though the probability of her appearing is low given the large number of villagers in the game. An alternative way to get her to the campsite is via an Amiibo card. Agnes’s card was featured in Series 2 and is readily available online. You can scan the card using the Nookstop terminal in Resident Services and invite her to your island. This method will require several days of effort as campers invited via Amiibos will not immediately join you.
Another way to hunt for Agnes is by finding her on a Mystery Island Tour, which can be initiated at the airport. Keep in mind that, like the campsite, the odds of finding her will be low given the size of the roster of characters that is randomized. Perhaps the easiest way to acquire Agnes is through another player, thanks to New Horizons‘s online capabilities. Villagers will occasionally express their desire to move out of their current home and head elsewhere. When they are packed in boxes, another player can visit them and request the moving villager to migrate to their island. Agnes is fairly popular, so you may have to cast pearls before swine to snatch her up.
Let’s Get Hog Wild
Agnes is one cool villager who can make you happy as a pig in mud. Her no-nonsense attitude and caring nature will make her a reliable and dear friend. While she doesn’t quite reach the popularity heights of other renowned villagers, she is still beloved by a wide swath of the fandom. If you need a pigheaded yet dependable member of your community, Agnes might be your gal. Just try not to make her angry, lest her hot-headedness makes you reap what you sow.
