Pink Rathian: All About This Beautiful Yet Deadly Monster

Out of all the monsters players must face in Monster Hunter World, there is one that serves as one of the first roadblocks when they enter High Rank. Pink Rathian, the Cherry Blossom Fire Wyvern, is a formidable foe responsible for making hunters far and wide return to camp in shame. Where did this terrifying beauty come from? Perhaps more importantly, how does a new hunter stand a chance at besting this creature? Fear not, hunters. Those questions are about to be answered.

The Lore of Pink Rathian

Pink Rathian was first brought out into the spotlight in Monster Hunter Ga Japan-exclusive PlayStation 2 game released back in 2005. In terms of the mainline games, she has had her time to shine in nine of them. Her latest mainline appearance was in Monster Hunter World. That game will be used to reference her current known abilities and weaknesses a bit later on.

This Flying Wyvern is a subspecies of Rathian, also known as the Queen of the Land. A subspecies is defined as members of a species of monster that have adapted to different environmental factors with certain exceptions. This results in different colors, behaviors, moves, and weaknesses—Pink Rathian, obviously sports pink coloration rather than the greens that base Rathian shows off. In terms of behavior, Pink Rathian is more aggressive, which causes problems for blooming hunters.

How to Defeat Pink Rathian

Since this pink beauty is more aggressive and packs a harder punch than normal Rathian, hunters encountering her for the first time may be at a loss at how to defeat Pink Rathian. Just like any monster, the more players know about her, the better the odds of defeating her are. Luckily, if players learn the elemental weakness of normal Rathian, they’ll also know Pink Rathian’s weaknesses. Both of them are weak to the dragon and thunder elements with a higher weakness to the dragon. Weapons with those two elements will do fine against Pink Rathian, especially ones with a high affinity for extra damage.

What players must really look out for when fighting this monster is her attacks. While she and normal Rathian have the same weaknesses, there are some different moves in her pool. She tends to use her toxic tail more often than Rathian. During a hard-hitting tail flip, Pink Rathian’s tail will be angled in a different way, which may catch players used to the base Rathian’s tail flip off guard. Cutting off her tail is helpful since it lowers its range.

There are also some helpful items players should bring to the hunt. Using the Vitality Mantle a good idea since it lets players tank extra hits. Players can acquire it before even encountering this monster. It is also helpful to make sure to be fully stocked with antidotes to cure themselves of the deadly poison that Pink Rathian can inflict. As bonus protection, players can attach certain decorations to their armor and weapons that lessen the damage poison and fire do to them, which is useful for base Rathian as well as Rathalos.

Will Pink Rathian Appear in Monster Hunter Wilds?

As surprising as it may be for some, there are players who miss fighting against the Cherry Blossom Fire Wyvern. The monster was missing in Monster Hunter Rise despite the game featuring subspecies of a few other monsters. This might have people wondering if Pink Rathian will be in Monster Hunter Wilds, which is set to release at some point in 2025.

The good news for those players is that as of right now, there is always a chance we’ll see her again. This is because Rathalos, the poster monster for the franchise, is confirmed to be in the game. The King of the Skies has never missed out on a title, and that goes the game for the Queen of the Land. While nothing is set in stone, the heavily expected appearance of base Rathian means her pink relative could make her reappearance. However, players around the world will just have to wait and see.
