All About the Menacing Glavenus in Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter Glavenus

Many amazing creatures can be found within the world of Monster Hunter, and they all have their quirks, strengths, and oddities. Glavenus, the Slashing Wyvern, puts hunters’ skills to the test by showing off what it can do with a giant and deadly blade. Add a bit of fire to that, and a truly menacing monster comes out as a result. And that’s exactly what this beast is to both new and experienced hunters.

The Story of the Slashing Wyvern

Glavenus was first introduced in Monster Hunter Generations. The red, blue, and bone-plated Brute Wyvern is one of four flagships found in the game. The group, known as The Fated Four, also consists of Astalos, Mizutsune, and Gammoth. Since then, Gammoth has only appeared in two other mainline games with the latest being Monster Hunter World thanks to the Iceborne DLC. It has also appeared in several spin-off games like both Stories games. The monster also has different versions like many others. Acidic and Hellblade Glavenus bring different kinds of perils for hunters to overcome.

The Slashing Wyvern’s signature move set is what gives it the apt title. Glavenus has a large bladed tail, similar to a Great Sword, that it can sharpen and even heat up to deal devastating attacks. When its tail is red hot, the strength of its attacks gets significantly more powerful. When sharpening its tail, the debris that Glavenus scrapes off of it is swallowed and stored in a specialized organ. It turns into a magma-like explosive substance that the monster can spit out as another kind of attack. It’s clear when this attack is about to be used because Glavenus’ throat glows bright red.

While the Slashing Wyvern can be intimidating and even terrifying to new hunters, there are some ways to make the fight a bit easier. First and foremost, the monster’s attacks can deal some major fire damage. Having an armor set that holds up to the flames will help boost players’ defenses, especially ones with the Fire Resistance skill. It would also be worth their while to acquire a few Fire Resistance decorations to further improve their odds. For non-elemental attacks, Defense Boost is always a good skill to have when dealing with any kind of monster.

Turning to offense, it’s important to know any monster’s weaknesses. Current day Glavenus is weakest to water followed by dragon and ice elements. Having a weapon that deals with those types of elemental damages could make the fight go a bit faster. Having decorations that boost elemental damage, raw damage, and affinity will also do hunters some good. A few examples of helpful decorations for dealing damage to the monster are Water Attack, Attack Boost, and Critical Eye.

Conclusion

Since its introduction in Generations, Glavenus has become a favorite of many hunters. Its design, behaviors, and attacks make it a unique addition to the Monster Hunter universe. The aura that surrounds the beast makes it truly feel like a Great Sword on two legs. That is if a Great Sword could also spew molten debris that can also explode when the time is right. Fans of the monster can only hope with their entire hearts that it sees a return in Monster Hunter Wilds.
