The Animal Crossing series is renowned for its vast cast of characters, with villagers playing a central role in its gameplay. Villagers enhance your community experience by offering daily tasks and opportunities for friendship. Here is what you need to know about one of these villagers named Tybalt.
Who is Tybalt?
Tybalt is a yellow tiger villager who was introduced at the beginning of the Animal Crossing series. He took a hiatus from the games after the first generation as he was missing from Wild World and City Folk. Tybalt reemerged as part of the Welcome Amiibo update for New Leaf on the Nintendo 3DS. He has the jock personality, a trait he shares with fellow tigers Leonardo and Rowan. Jocks are workout fiends and most conversations involving them revolve around their gains. Tybalt’s fur is complimented by brown stripes, making his appearance nondescript as far as tigers go. His birthday is on August 30, appropriately categorizing him as a Leo.
Tybalt’s name likely derives from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. In the play, Tybalt is the son of Lady Capulet’s brother, making him Juliet’s first cousin. At various points in the story, Mercutio mocks Tybalt by referring to him as the “Prince of Cats.” This moniker is a reference to the medieval fable of Reynard the Fox, which likewise features a character named Tibert the Cat. This character also bears the title of “Prince of Cats.” In the context of Romeo and Juliet, the name is meant to imply a person who is conniving and dangerous. The nickname is fairly applicable to our Animal Crossing character who can have a haughty disposition at times.
How to Get Tybalt
Finding the feline could turn into a game of cat and mouse. Tybalt can show up at your campsite and become a resident on your island, assuming you have an open plot available for him. Remember that the game will choose your camper randomly from its large selection of characters. This makes the odds of him showing up at the campsite unlikely. Alternatively, you can invite him to the campsite using his Amiibo card. Scan the card at the kiosk present in Resident Services and you can request that he visit. He will not immediately join your island, meaning you will have to win him over the course of several days.
If you find the above options unpalatable, there are other ways to seek Tybalt. You could potentially find him on a Mystery Island Tour in exchange for Nook Miles Tickets. The odds of finding him are not favorable as the game features over 400 villagers that will randomly populate these Mystery Islands. The easiest and most direct way to uncover our tiger friend is by trading with another player. Villagers will occasionally ask to leave the player’s island and venture elsewhere. Once a villager is “in boxes,” another player can invite them to live on their island. You likely won’t have to scratch and claw your way to get him, as Tybalt is run-of-the-mill in terms of popularity rankings.
Tigers Don’t Change Their Stripes
Tybalt is a pretty neat character who might make a great addition to your island. While he is somewhat popular, his demand is not as high as other characters, including other tigers like Bianca. Jocks can be divisive characters as some people find their constant discussions of exercise to be monotonous. But jocks can also be very endearing once you get to know them. If you so wish, this energetic tiger and his Shakespearean roots may be the one to round out your company of characters. Keep a watchful eye if you seek the elusive Prince of Cats. After all, it’s a jungle out there.
