Freja Kit Breakdown

Freja’s kit, at face value, is simple but has several intricacies that we will dive into later in this article. Her kit predominantly revolves around her Revdraw Crossbow, which has two firing options. The primary fire allows players to fire bolts rapidly. Holding down the secondary fire makes players Take Aim at their target. In this mode, movement is slowed, and gravity is counteracted. Upon firing Take Aim, Freja releases a devastating bolt that sticks to enemies and surfaces. After a short delay, the bolt explodes, causing enemies within its radius to take damage.

Freja’s cooldowns serve as a mobility tool and allow her to maximize the angles she takes. Quick Dash is, as the name suggests. When activated, players dash a short distance in the direction they are moving. Quick Dash can store up to two charges and refresh Take Aim. Updraft is another self-explanatory ability that sends players upward when activated. With both of these abilities, Freja is slippery and a pain to catch for even the best of players.

Bola Shot is Freja’s ultimate ability, which functions similarly to Zarya’s Graviton Surge. Upon hitting an enemy player or surface, the Bola activates. One significant difference between Bola Shot and Graviton Surge is that the pull on Bola Shot only activates if it hits an enemy. It also has an explosion at the end of its duration, regardless of who it hits. If the Bola attaches to a target, it hinders them. The functionality is the same as Cassidy’s flashbang. Freja’s passive enables her to maintain a high uptime on her ultimate given. For every three final blows Freja achieves, she gains a bonus ultimate charge.

Freja also comes with four perks: two minor and two major. Upon unlocking your first set of perks, players have two choices. Enhancing her primary fire to slow targets with successive hits or allowing her to see critical enemies through walls. If players stick to Freja and unlock their major perks, they get presented with two more choices. Using Updraft gives a free use of Quick Dash or Take Aim direct hits, refunding four crossbow bolts.

Hunting Tips for Freja

Finding a Movement Balance

Due to refunding Take Aim upon using Quick Dash, it creates vital decisions for players to make. Do you want to burn all dashes to increase damage output? Do you want to save some dashes for escape? These are two questions players must ask themselves. The answers vary based on the situation. Against heroes like Winston or Tracer, holding onto a dash could lead to survival. Sometimes instead of constantly resetting Take Aim, players can fire four bolts in between each to maximize damage while keeping safe, as KarQ describes in his video.

Understand the Risk of Take Aim

While Take Aim midair gives players new angles and higher percentage shots, it has risks. While she is in midair, you pin yourself as an easy target. Widowmakers will shoot any Freja who presents herself to them. Similarly to the Quick Dash question, players need to adjust their play style based on the situation in front of them. Finding the off angles to create the element of surprise will allow for easy assassinations.

Target Prioritization

Finding the ideal target is a monumental task, but it is good to have. She has the potential to put heavy pressure on the enemy tank or assassinate a squishier target. As a result, there is no wrong target in team fights, merely better options. For the most part, looking for assassinations will be a player’s go-to. Given her high burst and ultimate generation passive on final blows, be vigilant for opportunities. Making the enemy tank’s life a nightmare will also give an advantage in some fights. Focusing on the tank may lead to enemy DPS and supports having more freedom.

Freja officially releases alongside Season 16 on the 22nd of April. Players are encouraged to Take Aim and hunt down their targets with the help of this guide. Good luck out there, hunters, and get those victories rolling!
