Begone Beast is a brand-new game developed by Tandemi Studios and was revealed on Gamescom 2024. The trailer showed the basic theme and the gameplay of the game. The gameplay was pre-alpha footage so it might change in the future. Early Access to the game will be available in February 2025. It is a horror-themed yet cute action game designed for 1 to 4 players.
The Setting of Begone Beast
Begone Beast takes place in the town of Pennybrook. It is a simple and peaceful town where nothing bad happens. However, as soon as night falls there is a horde of terrifying monsters. The trailer revealed the setting of a haunted hotel that has been infected by insect-like creatures. Characters with cute designs were shown to travel through different levels of the hotel and use special abilities to navigate. Players must cooperate with other players to banish these monsters and uncover the secrets of this town.
Gameplay
Begone Beast is a top-down action game that allows 1 to 4 players to hack and slash through hordes of demons. There is a cast of playable characters in the game but only 5 of them were shown in the announcement trailer. Each character has a cute unique design as well as their flashlight weapons and abilities. The game features a fluid and well-designed hack-and-slash gameplay with compliments each ability well. There are two major bosses in the game with dozens of mini-bosses.
Begone Beast also prioritizes replayability through two features that Tandemi Studios are labeling as DAD and MOM. DAD which stands for Dynamic AI Director, improves the AI of the monsters so that they always find new and different ways to attack the players. This will make sure that enemies do not get predictable after facing them a few times. MOM which stands for Map Outline Maker creates procedurally generated levels to ensure that no two runs are the same. Both of these work perfectly well with each other to maintain the replayability factor of the game.
Online And Couch Co-Op
While Begone Beast can be played solo, it is encouraged to play with other people. Players can join an online session through in-game matchmaking or do couch co-op. Characters of the game are designed in such a way that their abilities complement each other. There is also a progression system in the game to unlock new abilities, weapons, upgrades, and characters. Each level will feature massive hordes of enemies but fear not as there are a lot of Snacks in each level. Each Snack works as a power-up which provides players with new abilities and improves existing abilities.
