Devil May Cry is an action series known for many things. Stylish combat, charismatic characters, and tough-as-nails enemies. With these vast types of enemies, the boss fights stick out to many of the fans for a myriad of reasons. These characters have cool designs, fun chemistry with the main characters, and crazy move sets that on the higher difficulties, will take you for a ride. Here are the three best bosses in Devil May Cry history.
Devil May Cry 4- Credo
Starting with Devil May Cry 4. This game isn’t necessarily the black sheep of the series, but many fans consider it an outlier due to the disappointing level design. What is not disappointing about Devil May Cry 4 however, is the complexity of the combat. Lore-wise, Credo is the older brother of Kyrie, who is dating Nero, the main protagonist of Devil May Cry 4. Nero has an incredibly deep combat system, and this is shown expertly with the Credo boss fight. Credo’s move set is quick and precise, but greatly exaggerated.
The best part of this fight is how easy it is to track his attacks. This is due to the way his attacks are animated. Credo will take huge swings when he attacks Nero and will take huge hit stun and blowback when attacked. This is awesome because it makes the fight so much more satisfying. Credo is animated so smoothly, almost like he’s a Loony Toons character, but it is absolutely for the better, and it makes the fight so enjoyable. Special intractability with Nero’s buster move? Makes it even better.
Devil May Cry 5- Vergil
The player fights Vergil two times in the main campaign of Devil May Cry 5. In Mission 19, Dante fights Vergil. In the final level, Mission 20, Nero is the playable character and gets in the way of this fight. Nero fights Vergil and ends the fight between the two sons of Sparda. This fight is incredible because of the lore implications of it. Devil May Cry 4 came out in 2008, and it was heavily implied that Vergil was Nero’s father, but it was never straight-up said. 2019 comes around, and Devil May Cry 5 comes out, and here the answer is.
They finally confirm that Vergil is Nero’s father, and Nero can barely comprehend this. He’s grown up without a family for so long, and now as a full-on adult, realizing he has one, overwhelms him. But it also gives him motivation to fight for something. He doesn’t fight to kill Vergil, but to stop the battle. And what a great battle it is. Vergil uses all his attacks, his summoned swords, his devil trigger, his tricks, all of it. It’s such a doozy of a fight.
Devil May Cry 3- Vergil
A boss fight so good, he appeared twice on the same list. In Devil May Cry 3, Dante and Vergil fight three times. Every time they do, it is a turning point in the story. Which fight to choose? All of them are great, but the final one is just the culmination of the story. Dante finally accepts his demonic heritage and chooses to protect the world from Vergil. The story implications of this fight, and all the development that has taken place, it’s incredible.
And on top of all of this, gameplay-wise like all the fights in this series, it’s incredible. Vergil pulls out all the stops for this fight. He uses his devil trigger, teleports around, and throws summoned swords at Dante, it’s insane. On the higher difficulties, he even enters into new modes and can summon his swords around him. It’s incredible. This fight also takes place in the convergence of the human and demon worlds. Just like all the fights on this list, it’s super climactic, super cool, and super well-written. That’s what makes the fights in Devil May Cry so incredible and unforgettable.
