Deadlock: Best Characters in Valve’s New MOBA

Deadlock

Valve’s Deadlock has quickly become one of the most played and competitive games in the hero shooter genre. For a game filled with a wide array of characters, each of them boasting unique abilities and playstyles, this game is a richly tactical experience that rewards skill and strategy. Within the ever-changing meta, some heroes have risen above others to become the essential picks for any player who wants to dominate on the battlefield.

A -Tier Deadlock Characters

Deadlock

Bebop

In terms of the role of picking off the over-extensions, it all focuses on Bebop, a supporting character. Another damage-melee ability is the Exploding Uppercut, where Bebop hits his enemies and pushes them back. It causes area damage once they land, making it practical in crowd control. Meanwhile, Bebop‘s Sticky Bomb is a more added utility for foiling enemies. His Hook can reel in enemies, making them easy targets for follow-up attacks. While not as dominating as characters in S-tier, Bebop’s versatile toolkit makes him a valuable asset in team compositions.

Yamato

Yamato is an impressive hero in Deadlock, recognized for his powerful blend of offense and defense. His abilities allow him to dominate the battlefield, with a skill set designed around slashing and dashing through enemies. Yamato’s versatility and survivability make him a top-tier choice for many players.

Viscous

Among all the heroes in the Deadlock roster, Viscous stands out as the most challenging to use. His abilities can be quite clunky, often veering off in unexpected directions due to their interaction with geometry. Additionally, his second ability is both a powerful heal and a potential source of accidental trolling for teammates. On the plus side, Viscous possesses one of the strongest ultimate abilities in the game, making him one of the strongest tanks once you reach the late game and can fully utilize your abilities. At that stage, he can become a significant asset. However, early on, Viscous struggles in the lane and needs levels and items to make a noticeable impact.

Vindicta

Vindicta is one of Deadlock’s aggressive offense-type characters and is known to be highly aggressive, nimble, and quick. She does extremely well at long-range with her set of abilities that give her a lot of damage while keeping her very maneuverable on the battlefield. She can fly into the air and snipe from a huge distance. She can also tether opponents to a small area and make them an easier target. This way, she can kill faster. The entire gameplay with Vindicta is to get to hard-to-reach places and snipe your enemies while attacking when they are least ready.

Abrams

Abrams can be well considered the most tanky character in Deadlock, with the potential via solid defenses. This allows him to absorb the damage that’s coming his way, and when he uses his aura that allows him to siphon life it makes him a huge nuisance on the battlefield. Abrams does well holding the very front line and creating space for his team. He is, therefore, a pretty hot pick in a team-oriented composition.

S-Tier Heroes

Lady Geist

A dominant hero in Deadlock, Lady Geist combines her life-draining powers with crowd control. Her Malice skill requires one to exchange health to be able to launch blood shards for applications on enemies that accumulate debuffs and damage. This makes her incredibly dangerous in team fights because she can soften up whole groups of enemies, leaving them susceptible to follow-up attacks. Not to mention, Lady Geist’s Soul Exchange allows for the exchange of health levels with an enemy, ensuring that she stays on the map for longer, even in tight situations. Such abilities make her versatile and dangerous, solidifying her place in the S-tier.

Shiv

Shiv is known for placing bleed effects and mobility for pure annoyance. His skill, Serrated Knives, allows him to throw knives at his target, causing a bleed effect and slowing them down. This effect of bleeding shall start to reduce the enemies gradually with time and thus make them quite easy to finish off. His mobility is additionally increased with his Shadow Step, with which he can get closer to his targets or just get away from everything. Shiv’s potential to deal consistent damage while maintaining high mobility makes him one of the most feared characters in Deadlock.

Wraith

Wraith is good at stealth and crowd control—literally making him a nightmare to deal with on the battlefield. With his ability to phase in and out of reality, avoiding damage while setting up for deadly strikes, he can deal a lot of damage quickly. He can even cast chains with his Spectral Chains—binding and stunning his enemies in movement, therefore making these heroes excellent targets for him and easy for the team to take down. Wraith is a sure pick for the S-tier, with the capacity to neutralize high-priority targets while staying evasive.

Seven

Seven can also rely on electric-based crowd control. His Lightning Ball is pushed in a straight line, striking an enemy that can be close by, and his Static Charge deals damage and dazes in such a way that Seven presents himself as being very useful for formation destruction and disorder in fights. His ultimate ability, Storm Cloud, creates a scaling area-of-effect that is always damaging and slowing for enemies caught in with it at all times, hence being the ideal pick for controlling large portions of the map.

Pocket

Pocket is an extremely high-mobility disruptor in Deadlock who finds his home in the enemy backline. This is greatly accented by his mobility, as he can teleport to a position created by his Flying Cloak ability. With his Barrage scatter-shot ability, he lets loose projectiles, slowing and damaging his foes. His Enchanter’s Satchel will give him a small escape mechanism that will deal damage upon the place it finishes in—very hard to pin down. This hard-to-pin-down mobility and disruption combine to make him a consistent threat, hence his place in the S-tier.

Warden

In Valve’s Deadlock, Warden has solidified his place in the S-tier due to his exceptional ability to control the battlefield and protect his team. Warden excels at providing strategic advantages with his defensive barriers and crowd-control abilities, which can turn the tide in critical moments. His Bulwark ability creates a shield that blocks incoming projectiles, making him invaluable in standoffs and when protecting objectives. Additionally, his Lockdown skill immobilizes enemies in a designated area, allowing his team to regroup or launch coordinated attacks. Warden’s blend of defensive support and battlefield control makes him a key asset in team compositions, earning him a top spot in the meta.

Conclusion

S-tier characters in Deadlock dominate the metagame, thanks to their powerful abilities, which alone can turn the tides of battle. They excel in the three aspects of versatility, damage, and crowd control, therefore rarely missing competitive plays. Although A-Tier heroes are not as strong, they are fairly effective and can do rather well if held by any player or in a situation of respective team compositions. Their abilities are balanced in offense and defense, so players can feel assured in their application if they can make use of all their strong points.
