Astro Bot is a 2024 3D platformer video game developed by Sony and released in 2024. The game is the most recent installment in the series, which started with 2018’s Astro Bot Rescue Mission. Astro Bot is a commemoration of Playstation’s 30 anniversary and the company’s rising heights. Because of this, the title is riddled with easter eggs, paying homage to Playstation through levels. These are just a few easter eggs in the game.
Kratos’ Axe, Leviathan
God of War is the first entry on our list, debuting in Bot of War level, found in the Tentacle System. Throughout the level, you will have to destroy Odin’s eight green-eyed Ravens. The character gets access to Kratos’ axe, Leviathan, which can do a number of tricks. Whatever it hits will turn into ice and shatter. In addition, the player will be able to throw the axe to hit enemies from afar. After defeating the Ravens, you will add the ‘Eyes of The All-Father’ Trophy to your collection.
God of War first debuted in 2005 and was developed by Sony’s Santa Monica Studio. The franchise is one of the most notorious titles that Sony has put out. God of War has gained praise for its gameplay and has received numerous awards. God of War is Sony’s most profitable brand, and it has created many fans. This video game series spans nine installments, giving you all the havoc and danger that you would expect from its title.
Solid Snake’s Inclusion
Metal Gear Solid is found in Creamy Canyon, an area with a sugary sweet theme. This is the second location found in the Gorilla Nebula, directly after your first level, the Rolling Star Sola. When you enter Creamy Cannon, proceed till you find the ladybug, which is used as a jumping pad to take you to the next platform. Ignore it and jump to the platform on your left. Solid Snake Bot will hang from the candy tree, and you will have to knock him down to unlock him. Solid Snake’s tagline is “Legendary Mercenary”, which fits his role in his home series.
Developed by Hideo Kojima, and published by Konami, Metal Gear Solid is a PlayStation Classic. The video game was released in 1998 and has gained near-universal acclaim. Solid Snake is an iconic video game protagonist, and he’s been playable in many Metal Gear games. Outside of his own franchise, he’s found a place in Super Smash Bros through 2008’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Fortnite.
Ratchet & Clank Returns!
The Changing Room brings in Ratchet & Clank via an outfit change that Astro can use. To unlock the changing room, the player must have 48 puzzle pieces. These puzzle pieces can be collected by paying attention while going through the various stages. Ratchet’s outfit is identified with the name ‘Tooled-Up Mechanic’, and his motto reads “His little buddy’s got his back”, referencing Clank.
Published by Sony Games, Ratchet & Clank has a history of PlayStation titles, dating all the way back to 2002. The first Ratchet & Clank was released on the PlayStation 2, focusing on Ratchet and Clank teaming up to stop the evil Chairman Drek. The game has since spawned a franchise of titles on the PlayStation Consoles. Up until 2021’s Rift Apart received a Windows port in 2023, the franchise was a PlayStation exclusive.
Astro Bot’s Reception
These are just three easter eggs picked out of 2024’s Astro Bot’s numerous references. There are plenty more references that are included throughout the game. Many of them are scattered across the galaxies and stages that you go through. Some of these references include unlockable characters, animations, and costumes used by Astro.
The series has already endeared itself to gamers, with nigh-universal acclaim toward the installment. Both its gameplay and its touching references have been cited as positive inclusions by the series.
