The Best Features of Stardew Valley 1.6 Update

Stardew Valley

The Stardew Valley 1.6 update brings various new features and improvements to this beloved farming simulator. Even before the update, Stardew Valley captivated players with its charming graphics, engaging content, and a story full of secrets. But now, new and old players have a ton more to explore. In this article, I’m going to go over the best features of Stardew Valley 1.6.

The Best Features of Stardew Valley Update 1.6

New Home Renovations

Stardew Valley 1.6 introduces four new home renovations: the dining room, attic, expanded corner room, and cubby.  The new dining room allows players to create a dedicated space for their virtual family. The attic renovation offers storage space for players who need it or additional space for some creative setups.

The expanded corner room gives you more room to decorate and arrange furniture. A lot of players use it to store chests or transform it into an indoor greenhouse with potted plants. The cubby is a small space that can be used for various purposes. Players often use this space for potted coffee beans. However, you can use it for whatever you want!

ConcernedApe also added 280 new furniture items, 41 new floor styles, and 24 new wallpapers, giving players extensive options to personalize their farmhouses! The possibilities are truly endless now.

Updated Villager Outfits and Dialogue

Villagers now wear warm outfits during the winter. This may seem small but it’s a significant change that adds to the qualify of life. Now, each season feels distinct and lifelike.  Additionally, over 100 new lines of dialogue have been added to the game. These provide more interactions and reactions to events and gifts. Many love this part of the 1.6 update since it makes villager conversation feel more personal.

Map Enhancements

The map now shows real-time player positioning, which is especially useful when playing with friends. This is because it makes it easier to coordinate and keep track of everyone’s location. The map has been redrawn with more detailed graphics as well. It now includes more details and seasonal variants.

New Crops and Giant Crops

The Stardew Valley 1.6 update introduces new crops like carrots, which can be planted in the spring, summer squash, which can be planted in the summer, broccoli, which can be planted in the fall, and powdermelon, which can be planted in the winter.  Two new giant crops have been added in this update as well, the giant powdermelon and the giant Qi crop. Previously, you could only get giant melons, giant pumpkins, and giant cauliflower.

Enhanced Pet Features

After maxing out your original pet’s hearts, players can now adopt more to their families. This feature helps make the farm feel even more lively and vibrant!  New pet breeds have been introduced as well, along with the ability for pets to give gifts. One of the most notable pet additions is the turtle!

Big Tree Questline

A new questline involving a big tree in Cindersap Forest was introduced in the 1.6 update. It promises new neighbors and encourages players to explore and uncover the secrets hidden within the forest. For players who’ve completed the Community Center, this is a huge addition.

Mastery System

The new mastery system, accessible in the Mastery Cave, allows players to earn points after reaching level 10 in all skills. It’s important to note that you can’t even access the cave until the player has a level of 10 in ALL skills. These points can be redeemed for perks.

New Festivals and Events

The update introduces new events like the Desert Festival, The Bookseller, Trout Derby, and SquidFest. These festivals/events add variety to the game, giving both new and late-game players content to enjoy so the game doesn’t get too repetitive. A new environmental event was added as well, green rain! This event adds a unique twist to the game. For a more in-depth look at this event, check out our guide: What is Green Rain in Stardew Valley?

Meadowlands Farm

The Meadowlands Farm is a new type added in the Stardew Valley 1.6 update that starts with a coop and two chickens. This farm is ideal for beginners or existing players looking for a different experience, The addition of chewy blue grass provides a new resource for players to utilize as well.

Wrapping Up

The Stardew Valley 1.6 update is a game-changer. In fact, it’s argued to be the best update the game has seen, and with what we just went over, I think it’s safe to say I agree! It’s packed with features that make gameplay more engaging and improve player experience. Whether you’re a new or old player, this update offers something for everyone. Eventually, it will be out for consoles, but it is currently only a PC update.
