Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the pinnacle of fighting games. Debuting in 2018, Nintendo set out to make it the definitive edition of the classic title. It arguably put the franchise in a corner and will make it difficult to make a future entry into the series, but it is currently the preeminent fighting game. As a result, it has a lot of characters.
Every single Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character can indeed be played with. The secret to Smash is to choose a character you like or want to play with and learn it. You can become a quality player with every single character no matter if they’re deemed good or bad by the community. With that said, some characters are easier and better to use before doing all that training.
Best Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Characters
5) Minecraft Steve
Minecraft Steve almost feels out of place in Ultimate, but he’s extremely useful. His attacks vary widely, making him a very difficult player to play against. Steve is capable of dealing a lot of damage and setting up attacks that will play out in lethal combos. He’s one of the most challenging characters to master, but it’s well worth the effort.
4) Bowser
Bowser is a Heavy character, which means he’s someone that can deal a lot of damage. The thing that makes him so useful, though, is that he has a move that can almost guarantee victory. If he gets a stock up on his opponent, he can grab them and jump off the map. This sends them spiraling downward. It can be teched, but it’s a near-guaranteed death for both players.
3) Link
Link is one of the most well-known video game protagonists of all time. The Legend of Zelda star is also one of the best players in Super Smash Bros. He’s an all-around character, which means he’s not fast or strong, but he is faster than some characters and stronger than others. He can shoot from range, leave timed attacks, and deal damage up close.
2) Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most iconic characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He’s also one of the fastest. He can’t take a lot of hits, but it is easy to run around and avoid damage with a player like Sonic. This is an especially good character to use to try and counter a Heavy since they are usually quite slow. Sonic has also been banned from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate competitive play because he’s such a good character, which makes him useful in casual play.
1) King K. Rool
The Donkey Kong villain is a top-notch Smash character. He’s a Heavy player, which means he is slow but extremely strong. King K. Rool is one of the few characters with a counter, but he also has built-in armor that can help withstand attacks. King K. Rool also has the ability to attack from range and up close, making him a difficult opponent.
