The game was announced to be in development way back in 2019. BioShock 4 is being crafted by Cloud Chamber, a brand-new studio under the 2K umbrella. This new endeavor is a collaboration run by studio head Kelley Gilmore, who brings her wealth of experience from the Civilization and XCOM franchises. She spoke about the company in a recent interview.

“We founded Cloud Chamber to create yet-to-be-discovered worlds–and their stories within–that push the boundaries of what is possible in the video game medium. Our team believes in the beauty and strength of diversity, in both the makeup of the studio and the nature of its thinking. We are a deeply experienced group of game makers, including many responsible for BioShock’s principal creation, advancement, and longstanding notoriety, and [we are] honored to be part of the 2K family as stewards of this iconic franchise.”

Although the mastermind behind the original BioShock, Ken Levine, won’t be involved this time, just as he wasn’t in BioShock 2, the Cloud Chamber team appreciates the series’ history. As Levine stated, he’ll be playing BioShock 4 just like the rest of us: as a passionate fan of the series. You can be sure that much heart is being poured into making this game a worthy continuation of an iconic series.

Lots Of Unknowns

A release date has not been announced, and internet rumors state BioShock 4 is not close to being done. As for the story and setting, nothing has been announced either. It remains to be seen whether we will get a new location or return to an old favorite. We’re also looking for updates on platform availability. Previously released across multiple platforms, the game will likely continue this trend, delighting gamers on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles.

While there’s much we still don’t know about BioShock 4, the anticipation is still at an all-time high. This is not the only project Bioshock fans are waiting to hear about. A series produced by Netflix is reportedly in development and still happening, but we have not seen anything definitive yet. Fans of the series will have to continue to wait and hope some announcements come soon.
