Black Myth: Wukong: Everything We Know For Its 2024 Release

Black Myth: Wukong is a new Action Role-Playing game, coming to PS5 and PC. Xbox follows behind with a delayed release, due to optimization issues. This proves further that Xbox is still falling behind with software issues.

It comes out on August 20, 2024, and with that let’s dive into what we know about Black Myth: Wukong.

Myth of Black Myth: Wukong

BlackMyth

Black Myth: Wukong is a game rooted in Chinese Mythology, it’s based on the idea of Sun Wukong the Monkey King. A little about the actual myth: Sun Wukong is a literary figure best known from Journey to the West. After being born from a stone he goes on a journey to find the Tao. He is forced out of Heaven after rebelling and becomes imprisoned by the Buddha. He gains powers throughout his journey to gain immortality and strength after he is released and accompanies the monks.

He is famous for his 72 Earthly Transformations, as it sounds, he has different powers that allow him to transform into different animals and objects. He also has magical… hair. Yes, hair. Which allows him to make copies of himself and manipulate weapons and other objects. There is more to the story, but this is basically what he is famous for; being all-powerful and even resembling a god.

If the game follows his path, or at the very least the path of Chinese mythology, we will be seeing some powerful beings coming into play and maybe even a form or two of Buddha. We can hope to follow the path that Wukong set out on to achieve godhood. I hope to be able to use a majority of his powers, at least the ones that will help us in the game.

While it’s not story-related, the mythology has been spread across multiple stories in the world, including Dragon Ball Z, as Goku is inspired by Wukong.

Conclusion

As I said above, I can only hope we get to use some of Wukongs powers. There is already gameplay for it but obviously, it’s pre-alpha it could change. One thing for sure is we will get his staff, this staff he is known to alter at will. Usually in games that introduce Wukong or a form of Wukong, one can see Wukong using a staff and he can grow it in size to make it heavier or smaller for faster fighting. One thing I am hoping for is we get to use his ability to split himself we could use them to keep combos going and to throw around enemies.

Wukong most likely will be a sandbox-like world. However, it shouldn’t be shy of showing us beautiful landscapes like they showed in the trailers. But seeing gameplay you can at least expect a usual role-playing game maybe even soul-like gameplay.
