Black Myth: Wukong is a brand-new Action RPG that is inspired by the Classical Chinese Novel called “Journey to the West”. It is inspired by the Soulslike genre but differs from those games in various ways. This game follows the story of Sun Wukong as he fights epic bosses in a linear open world. This article will go over Gourds, a core mechanic in the game, and how each Gourd differs from the rest.
Gourds
Gourds in Black Myth: Wukong is a healing item, similar to Estus Flasks in Dark Souls or Flasks of Crimson Tears in Elden Ring. Instead of upgrading the same Gourd over and over, the game provides players an option to find different Gourds throughout their journey. Each of them comes with its number of uses as well as special effects which are unique to them. Here we will go over how to find each of the Gourd and what benefits they provide.
Types of Gourds in Black Myth: Wukong
There are 12 types of Gourds that players can obtain in Black Myth: Wukong and some are a part of secret questlines as well.
- Old Gourd: It is the basic Gourd that every player starts their journey with. It can however be upgraded to have bonus healing effects. It has the default usage of 4.
- Trailblazer’s Scarlet Gourd: This Gourd is a pre-order bonus that can also be obtained by completing the Horse Guai NPC quest. This Gourd provides the effect that when the Gourd is full, the first sip fully restores the player’s health.
- Jade Lotus Gourd: This Gourd can be bought from Shen Monkey Vendor in Bamboo Grove. This Gourd also recovers health for nearby duplicates.
- Plaguebane Gourd: This Gourd is obtained after completing the Old Rattle Drum questline. It comes with the effect that using it gives half of the health but the attack damage is increased for a short duration.
- Fiery Gourd: This Gourd can be found in Mindfulness Cliffs. This Gourd also provides Chill immunity as well as a boost to Stamina recovery.
- Xiang River Goddess Gourd: This Gourd can be found from Verdure Bridge and provides players with Burn resistance as well as immunity from lava-covered terrains.
- Stained Jade Gourd: This Gourd is obtained after defeating The Scorpionlord in Purple Cloud Mountain and it massively increases the drinking speed.
- Immortal Blessing Gourd: This Gourd can be bought from Shen Monkey but it requires Buddha’s Left Hand and Buddha’s Right-Hand items. It provides the same effect as Plaguebane Gourd where health recovery is halved, but attack damage is increased.
- Supreme Gourd: This Gourd can be obtained from the Old Man NPC in the Rakshasa Palace. It provides no special effect but has the highest default use of 10.
- Multi-Glazed Gourd: This Gourd is also bought from Shen Monkey and the vendor and allows the last sip of the Gourd to massively increase damage.
- Jade Guanyin Gourd: This Gourd is the upgradable version of Jade Lotus Gourd and it fully restores the health of nearby Duplicates.
- Qing-Tian Gourd: This Gourd is the reward after completing the Purple Shrine Quest. It slowly restores the Gourd use.
