Amazing Borderlands 4 Teaser Revealed at Gamescom

Borderlands 4 has been officially shown off at Gamescom 2024! With a 2025 release year provided, we might see this game far sooner than expected. Having recently teased that Borderlands 4 could be announced, this is still a big reveal for the gaming world. This announcement is well-timed with the recent release of the Borderlands movie. That synergy is almost certainly in mind as Gearbox gets us ready for the next installment of the looter-shooter phenomenon.

Big Teases

The teaser as shown to us today at Gamescom is not long, but it gives us much to think about. A long shot has us looking out at space before seeing the burning symbol of a phoenix. This seems to transport us to a planet, or perhaps that planet to a spot in space. We see this planet seeming to move through space and raining destruction down upon another world. A robotic hand then grasps the iconic Psycho mask before the title drop of Borderlands 4 is shown. Following the showing of a 2025 date, brief writing in an alien language flashes before the teaser ends.

Not Much To Go On

Obviously, as the first teaser, this isn’t exactly filled with information. The ability of Lilith, often represented by the flaming wings of the phoenix, to teleport things is perhaps the phenomenon we see as a planet moves through space. This doesn’t seem to be a fully good thing, however, as it seems to not quite belong in the place it ends up. The story will presumably pick up as we see the fallout from this disaster. Needless to say, our characters may have a lot of problem-solving to do if the destruction is as widespread as it seems. We shall see if these predictions about the narrative have been properly gleaned as more information is released.

Final Thoughts

The Borderlands franchise had a rough time this summer with widespread panning of its film adaptation. However, the previous games in the franchise have largely been successful. As Gearbox’s tentpole franchise, a fourth installment was somewhat inevitable. When Borderlands 4 gets more news, you can be sure it will be covered here. Gamers have a good year of hype-building to get excited for what is in store for us as we return to the role of Vault Hunters once more.

Despite the failure of the movie, the relevancy of the franchise was proven. Or at least, the desire for it to be relevant was shown by fans and players. It’s unlikely that Gearbox was solely reacting to this trend and instead had it planned. They likely weren’t expecting the movie to flop so spectacularly, but they had the good forethought to plan their fourth game’s reveal in and around the same time as the film’s release.
