Nintendo Switch 2 held an exclusive Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, 2025, and we got a first look at a plethora of games coming to the new console. The console is to be released on June 5th, 2025, and will have a wide diversity of games coming to the catalog, including Nintendo franchise icons and mass market titles. One of the said games that is gaining a remaster is Bravely Default, a JRPG from Square Enix.
Bravely Default Remaster is Coming to Nintendo Switch 2
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster received a trailer during Nintendo Direct, and the game looks really good. Bravely Default is a Final Fantasy-inspired franchise utilizing a turn-based combat system. The original game was developed as a sequel to Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light before branching off and becoming its own entity.
The game follows the warriors of light as they attempt to save the world from destruction by awakening the crystals of the realm. Besides turn based combat, the game also features a job system, where players can customize their characters and strategy in a variety of ways. This style of mechanics allows for tons of replay value as players delve into different styles each time they start over.
Several changes are coming to the remastered version of Bravely Default. First, there will be graphical enhancements for modern HD gaming. The remaster will also have quality of life improvements, such as a fast-forwarding function, redesigned UI and upgraded online capabilities. With the Nintendo Switch 2’s new joycon mouse feature, the game is also adding mouse controlled mini games.
Final Thoughts
Square Enix has been revisiting many of their smaller JRPG projects in recent years through remakes and remasters. The Mana series, the SaGa series, and the Dragon Quest series have all gotten recent remasters and remakes of their classic games. It has been exciting to see these games grow their audience and become more well-known. Bravely Default is another classic series that balances nostalgic feel with modern style, and it is great to see Square Enix acknowledge that fact. Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster will be available for purchase on Switch 2’s launch day, June 5th, 2025.
