Bungie Teased the Return of Icebreaker in Destiny 2

Icebreaker was an iconic Exotic Sniper Rifle from the original Destiny game. It was extremely popular and a fan-favorite weapon that never returned in Destiny 2. However, in a recent blog post on the official Bungie website. Bungie introduced a cover art for their upcoming 10th Anniversary celebration event. Destiny was released on 9 September 2014 and an in-game event was released on 9 September 2024 to mark this occasion. In the cover art, Bungie has teased that Icebreaker might be returning sooner than players think.

In the blog post about the 10th Anniversary event of Destiny 2, Bungie published an interesting paragraph. In the paragraph, they mentioned that the armor sets for Warlocks, Hunters, and Titans coming in the event and the Title is the first tribute to the anniversary. However, they will be adding more to the game in the future that complements the 10-year-long legacy.

They explained that they will be returning a certain Exotic Sniper Rifle that fans have been asking for years and have given up hope for its return in Destiny 2. Another important thing they said is that it will be part of the upcoming Dungeon, which is set to release in the Episode: Revenant of The Final Shape. Bungie said that this is all they can say at the moment and will release more info at a later time. However, they said that they hoped it was enough to break the ice.

Now it does not take a genius to figure out that the upcoming Exotic Sniper Rifle is the beloved Icebreaker. It was released in the original Destiny game and was broken on launch. It had the Exotic ability to regenerate ammo over time. Even though it was nerfed a lot of times after that it remained a beloved option. We will now have to wait and see how the Destiny 2 version of Icebreaker differs from the original.

Upcoming Dungeon

According to Bungie’s statement, Icebreaker will be returning to Destiny 2 by being part of the loot pool of the upcoming Dungeon. It is not uncommon for Exotics to be a part of the Dungeon loot pool ever since Gjallahorn was returned as a part of the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon. From the past Dungeons in Destiny 2 and how they reward Exotics, we can assume that Icebreaker will be either tied to a Quest or will drop as a random drop after beating the final encounter.

There is not much known about the next Dungeon except that it will be released sometime in the next Episode called Revenant. This Episode will feature another Echo that was created as a result of the Witness’ defeat in The Final Shape expansion. This Echo will be in the possession of Fikrul, a returning enemy from the Light and Darkness saga. This Episode will most likely take place on the Tangled Shore so it is safe to assume that the next Dungeon will also take place on the same destination.
