With the launch of The Final Shape expansion in Destiny 2, the 10-year-old light and darkness saga that started with the original Destiny game has come to an end. Now fans of the franchise are left wondering if there is any future for Destiny 2. Will there be more annual expansions or will there be just Episodes? The only thing that Bungie revealed previously is that after the three Episodes, they will launch Destiny 2 Frontiers. However, no extra information was given.
10th Anniversary Event
Bungie released their weekly blog post called “This Week in Destiny” this Thursday. In this post, they revealed some information about their 10th Anniversary Event as well as some info about Destiny 2 Frontiers. The original Destiny game was released on September 9, 2014, and this 9th September will be the franchise’s 10th anniversary. To mark this special occasion, they mentioned in the TWID, that there will be a special celebration in-game. There will be a brand-new Title to earn. Free new legendary armor sets for Hunters, Warlocks, and Titans. As well as other Bungie rewards.
Destiny 2 Frontiers
Frontiers will be the new expansion-type content that will be released after the Third Episode. Bungie stated in the TWID that they will be releasing a Developer Blog on YouTube on Monday at 8 am PT. This blog will go over the Anniversary event as well as show more information about Destiny 2 Frontiers. This blog will be hosted by Game Director Tyson Green as well as Narrative Director Alison Luhrs. They will go over what happened in the previous 10 years, where are we now, and where we aim to go in the future.
People have been speculating about what the Frontiers will be. The most promising theory is that we will pilot the iconic Dreadnaught in Episode 3 and use it to travel beyond the galaxy. The statement in the TWID “Most importantly… how are we going to get there.” Also supports this theory. They also noted in the TWID that as Frontiers is in development, the information may tend to change but they will keep us updated.
Other Information
TWID also featured some additional upcoming changes to Destiny 2. Bungie added that they will be making an update to Raid and Dungeon Rotators. Rotator allows a specific Raid or Dungeon to be farmable for one entire week. As there are 8 Dungeons and Raids in rotation, waiting for a specific Raid and Dungeon can be a bit annoying. Starting October 8, there will be 2 Raids and Dungeons in the rotation for a week. This will reduce the waiting time for players almost by half.
