Bungie Claims a Destiny 2 Wicked Implement Bug is a Feature

Wicked Implement

A week ago, Bungie claimed that something that was generally assumed by the community to be a Wicked Implement Exotic weapon bug in Destiny 2 was not that. Instead, they said that it was an intended effect by the developers. It’s worth noting that this bug isn’t some fascinating over-the-bar giant bug, but a smaller glitch being proclaimed as a feature.

In a recent This Week in Destiny update, Bungie threw a statement about the exotic scout rifle Wicked Implement: “We have seen reports that Wicked Implement and Conditional Finality aren’t receiving the Anti-Barrier perk from the artifact. This is by design due to the exotics being Stasis and having the intrinsic ‘Slow’ perk already, which can be used against Overload champions.” Three types of special enemies, called champions, appear in endgame activities. And just so you have the right loadout, the game tells you what type of champion you’ll find to avoid any troubles. Each of the three types of champions has special effects that can only be countered by special tools.

These champions are the Barrier, Overload, and Unstoppable champions. In each case, players need special tools to stun the champions, in other to make them easier to kill. For example, barrier champions can create a shield, otherwise called a barrier, around themselves that needs to be broken with an anti-barrier weapon, or else it quickly recovers all health lost. In Destiny 2, only three champion countersources exist. These include Keywords from Destiny 2’s Subclass system which can counter all champions, Artifacts that can make every supported weapon it’s equipped to, have its feature of countering champions of a particular type, and Intrinsic which naturally counters champions, just because Bungie decided that they should.

All About The Wicked Implement Bug

Wicked Implement is an exotic scout rifle that fires slow-effect bullets. Because of that, Bungie claims that it makes it an intrinsic Overload counter, and so the artifact perk Anti-Barrier Scout doesn’t apply. While Conditional Finality is an exotic shotgun that fires bullets that counter Unstoppable champions through the Ignite and Shatter keywords. Once again, Bungie claims that this makes it an intrinsic counter, and so the Anti-Barrier Shotgun artifact perk doesn’t apply.

Overload champions are weak to Slow, so if Wicked Implement’s bullets are naturally intrinsic, the gun wouldn’t be able to stun other champion types. But Wicked Implement still stuns Unstoppable champions, because stacks of Slow eventually build into Freeze. And, the Keyword that counters Unstoppable champions is Shatter, and if you shoot a frozen enemy you’ll naturally inflict Shatter. If the Wicked Implement Exotic Scout Rifle’s anti-Overload properties were intrinsic, the weapon would only be able to deal with Overloads alone.

Conclusion

If Bungie lets Wicked Implement benefit from Anti-Barrier Scout, it would be able to stun all three champion types, although, that may be a good thing for players. Maybe Bungie thinks it would be too powerful, but with Wicked Implement being a precision scout rifle, it needs all the help it can get. Bungie recently admitted that “Destiny is too complex,” and with that said, the Wicked Implement may not be this way in the next episode.
