Call of Duty has found success in their recent collaborations. When Netflix released the second season of the popular series Squid Game, Treyarch held an event in-game. Skins, exclusive gear, and much more were available for purchase. They followed this up with an event based on the iconic franchise The Terminator. They aren’t stopping bringing in fan-favorite characters into the game. Rumors surfaced a few weeks back that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles could be making an appearance in an upcoming collab, but nothing was confirmed until now.
Call Of Duty Confirms TMNT Collab
The official Call of Duty X account posted a 17-second video announcing the upcoming event. It features a city street from the game, and as it pans down to a manhole cover, the crime-fighting turtles pop up, ready for action. “COD-A-BUNGA,” the caption read, exciting fans of the TMNT series. No date was given, as the trailer simply ended with a “Coming Soon” tagline. However, that has not stopped the speculation from beginning.
The reason the TMNT rumor caught fire was rumors that ninja-style weapons were coming to the game as a part of Season 2 Reloaded. What really made the rumor spread like wildfire was the inclusion of a skateboard as a possible weapon. While katanas and nunchucks could be any ninjas, only one group is known for using skateboards. No doubt, the turtles will be the main focus, and it remains to be seen whether there will be one bundle or individual ones. Shredder is also rumored to make a return, marking his second appearance in the series after being a villain in the 2022 version of Modern Warfare 2. The biggest question still remains unanswered: When will this be released?
When Will We See The Turtles In Action?
We have some clues that may give us insight into when this event will happen. Season 2 Reloaded will need to roll out first. That date is yet to be confirmed, but the mid-season refresh is expected to happen in the next month. When that rolls out, the studio will likely give a roadmap of what players can expect in the refresh. The TMNT collaboration will be an event they will want everyone to know about. Since the cartoon was released in 1987, many people have become obsessed with the ninja brothers.
It’s a smart move by Call of Duty to pick such an iconic set of characters. Other series have collaborated with these characters with great success. Injustice 2 brought the turtles in as playable characters, with each brother playing a little differently. It will be interesting to see how Treyarch makes each character different. While they could make all of them exactly the same, that seems lazy and not true to the characters.
Final Thoughts
This will hopefully be the first of many collaborations with franchises like TMNT. Many classic franchises would work well in a game like this. While the fanbase of this game is already huge, there is always room to invite more people in. We will now wait in anticipation for a release date and more details on what to expect from the upcoming event.
