Call of Duty Next Reveals The Franchise’s Massive Leap

Black Ops 6 Multiplayer Trailer

Call of Duty Next has revealed many new quality-of-life changes to the formula for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Treyarch has been hard at work creating a Call of Duty title that is better than ever, especially after the poor reception of Call of Duty: MWIII. The event covers all areas of the cod experience, including multiplayer, zombie, war zone, and even mobile games. Here’s everything you need to know that was announced during Call of Duty Next.

Gameplay

Omni-movement has been the topic of many discussions surrounding the gameplay of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, now at Call of Duty: Next, many streamers and gamers have the opportunity to try out the new movement systems for themselves. The new movement system integrates seamlessly with the active agile movement system of recent cod titles, omni-movement feels fluid and natural to pull off as if the player is there on the battlefield. This helps create an even better sense of immersion since pulling off kills and shots that could never be dreamed of is much easier.

The TTK balances for weapons have been lowered for this title, much to the relief of many fans as they believed that the TTK balance in MWIII was too high for cod standards. As we can expect the weapons receive balances and updates during the lifespan of BO6, lowering the TTK for every weapon could help the player have more fun and not feel frustrated about disproportionate TTK aspects which could cause unfair deaths and unbalanced firefights.

All New Content at Launch

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will feature 16 brand-new maps for multiplayer at launch, such as Protocol, Payback, Skyline, Lowtown, Subsonic, Rewind, Scud, Redcard, Babylon, Derelict, Vorkuta, Vault, Sandhouse, Stakeout, Gala, and last but not least, Pit. Only 8 of the aforementioned maps will be playable in the open beta, but it is exciting to have such a diverse and creative roster of maps.

Sandhouse is a remake of the fan-favorite Nuketown. Vorkuta is based on the real-life prison in the Soviet Union used during the Cold War, a callback to the campaign mission in the original Call of Duty: Black Ops. Along with beloved long-time game modes such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Hardpoint, BO6 multiplayer will introduce an all-new game mode called Kill Order.

Players will be split into two teams, and one player from each team will be selected as an HVI, the main objective of the mode is to protect your team’s HVI while trying to kill the opposing team’s HVI. Both HVIs will be heavily armored and have strong firepower, to compensate for having the locations revealed to all players.

New And Returning Game Mechanics

Omni-movement isn’t the only new gameplay aspect of this year’s title. A new hostage mechanic allows players to capture and use their enemies as shields against the enemy team, allowing new opportunities to approach hot zones in battles. Many new weapons make their debut in Black Ops 6 along with fan-favorite weapons returning. The Gunsmith system has received a couple of tweaks, now it allows for more attachments to become available for all weapons including newly-used ones.

Even allowing players to combine an unlocked attachment from previous weapons, the player can attach them to their weapon, even at level 1. Finally, the camo unlock progression system has been reworked to be less grinding and time-consuming than previous titles, along with some new camos and with multiplayer, zombies, and warzone having two unique mastery camos for each mode.

Progression

Classic Prestige makes its glorious return after taking a hiatus, having been last seen in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. According to the developers, there will be a total of 10 prestige ranks that the players can progress to, finishing off with reaching Prestige Master along with 1,000 more player levels to go.

Each prestige rank will be themed after a previous cod title developed by Treyarch, such as the first prestige rank being themed after Call of Duty: World at War. New challenges await us in Black Ops 6, teeming with rewards, which will undoubtedly add more replay value. There have been some brief mentions about Ranked Play for Black Ops 6 but sounds like it’s still in the works, hopefully, it will be ready soon for the climb to glory.

A New Era Of The Undead

Zombies make its glorious return to round-based maps for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Liberty Falls makes its playable debut in Call of Duty Next, along with more of what the map has to offer. In lore, The Liberty Falls Outbreak happens at the same time as the Terminus Island Outbreak. meaning for Liberty Falls, we could see another dedicated crew for this map or most likely, operators from the game itself. Since the main crew from Requiem was too busy trying to escape the prison island of Terminus, all efforts for the outbreak at Liberty Falls were to contain it. Unfortunately, they failed in the process.

While the Requiem crew and Peck attempt to hunt down Richtofen, Richtofen has problems of his own as he gets put smack dab in the middle of the outbreak zone. He attempts to reach a device last seen in Forsaken, only to become caught by The Entity from the Dark Aether and seemingly transported to the Dark Aether. When the game launches, the player base will have to find out the clues to what is truly going on here.

The Old and The New

Terminus and Liberty Falls will be the first two maps to be immediately available upon the launch of Black Ops 6, with the devs promising more round-based maps before the end of the year. The live zombie gameplay has shown a lot about what awaits us in the game. Gobblegums make their return from Black Ops 3 Zombies, with some improvements and tweaks, although it’s not known yet how to acquire more or other gobblegums.

The gobblegum machines make their in-game return as well to pick up your gobblegum loadout and now the player can hold up to three gobblegums at a time instead of only one in BO3. The rarity and pack-a-punch upgrade tier system makes their return from Cold War, you can upgrade your starting weapon or another weapon in The Arsenal machine and pack-a-punch your weapons at, well, the Pack-A-Punch machine. Ammo mods can be crafted at the arsenal machine instead of being acquired at pack-a-punch this time around which is a welcome change. The rampage inducer makes a return which will help get through the early rounds faster and more challenging.

Old Dogs, New tricks

The Ray Gun makes an unsurprising return to BO6 Zombies, much to the delight of the community, and just as powerful as ever from Cold War Zombies. The Jet Gun makes a reappearance after its one-off appearance in Tranzit, unlike its Black Ops 2 counterpart, it’s useful, doesn’t break easily, and can be upgraded. Players can now also play as a zombie for the first time since Black Ops 2’s Turned game mode.

By crafting a special injection at the crafting table, players can transform into Manglers and use their strengths against the hordes. This only lasts for a limited time and requires a lot of salvage to craft so use it wisely. Players can also craft the mangler’s arm cannon by itself and use it independently. With all these new additions to the zombies game mode, BO6 Zombies is looking to be the most ambitious zombies game mode to date.

Warzone

New Map: Area 99

Call of Duty: Warzone is also getting the VIP treatment for this upcoming cod title. A brand-new resurgence map will be introduced following the release of Black Ops 6 called Area 99. It’s possible reference to Area 51, Area 99 is the birthplace of Nuketown in the rebooted cod franchise. It’s a good size for a resurgence map. Areas of Interest for Area 99 are the Reactor, Test site, Pods, Factory, Mannequin Assembly, and finally, Nuketown Shipping.

These spots will most likely be hot spots for excellent gear to win Warzone. In addition to the new map, Warzone will be updated with the omni-movement system and new weapons in Black Ops 6 so they will be just as agile and deadly as in multiplayer. This is most likely the biggest update to Warzone yet, so players must get their squad and get ready to drop into Area 99.

Call of Duty: Mobile

5 years strong, many more ahead

Call of Duty: Mobile has been going on for 5 strong years as of 2024, the devs have stated that they’re not through yet as they’re anticipating many more great years ahead of them. COD Mobile has received over 50 seasons of content over 5 years since its impressive release. Considering that COD Mobile is a mash-up of COD’s past and future, it’s not surprising why the game recieved so much content during its lifespan.

Many innovations from ecent titles will also make their way to COD Mobile, as well as Warzone. Its first season will feature new weapons, operators, progression, the inclusion of omni-movement, classic prestige, and new scorestreaks from Black Ops 6. Warzone Mobile will have a lot waiting for it shortly.

Departing Thoughts

Call of Duty Next was a fantastic event that was informative, fun, and a joy to watch and experience. Much passion was poured into this event to make it as grand as it was, perhaps this is the first sign that Call of Duty will finally find its lost spark after the glory days of Black Ops II, only time will tell. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to release on October 25, 2o24; with the open beta being available for early access starting August 30 for those who pre-ordered the game or got a key from Xfinity. It’s time to lock and load for a new era of Call of Duty.
