Call of Duty Warzone Cheating Claims Draw Response from Super Bowl Champ

Devonta Smith responds to Call of Duty Warzone cheating allegations

Call of Duty Warzone has been dealing with hacking and cheating allegations for the past few weeks. Players have been frustrated at the lack of action taken against those who are cheating to boost their rankings. The most common ways people see this in the game are near-perfect aim and an elite awareness of where enemies are. However, the challenge is many gamers are legitimately good at the game. Trying to determine whether someone is cheating or not is a tall task. Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Devonta Smith is the latest person to receive allegations of cheating. It got so bad it drew a response from the Super Bowl champion.

Devonta Smith has 15,000 followers on Twitch, and he occasionally streams Call of Duty Warzone. He has gotten pretty good at the game, which has led to the cheating allegations. A compilation video was made showcasing some clips that many believe are only possible with hacking. Many people commented on the pinpoint accuracy, lightning-quick reflexes, and elite enemy awareness as reasons why they believe the Philadelphia Eagles’ star is hacking.

It got so much traction online that Smith had to respond. He posted on X, “Since yall think im cheating on COD just join the stream tonight.” On the next stream, he addressed the allegations on camera. “That’s what I’m saying, chat. I ain’t hacking…I can handle my own but I ain’t hacking, man,” Smith said to open the stream. There wasn’t much else said on the matter and some of his subscribers in chat defended him.

Any Truth To These Allegations?

Ultimately, we’ll never know whether any person is truly hacking unless Treyarch bans them. However, there are some points I want to make about the situation. Devonta Smith is an elite-level athlete. This means his reflexes are likely miles ahead of the average person. It makes sense he would react quicker to things since that is his entire job in the NFL. Highlight complications from his football games showcase his elite skills.

There is also a culture around games like Call of Duty Warzone, where we automatically think the worst when someone has success. It leads to a very negative view of the game and other players. Instead of thinking someone is great, we automatically assume anyone who has elite skills did not get there through hard work or natural skill. However, this points to the developers’ importance in cracking down on cheating. If the studio did a better job at punishing players who cheat, these types of allegations would disappear.
